To clarify: You asked about scatter. In this article, it actually refers to the act of reflecting light. Reflecting light increases the amount captured by the scintillator and increases it's detection efficiency.

Finally had a chance to get back to reading. It's been a very eventful summer. The article I gave you outlines a methodology for increasing the overall efficiency for scintillators to capture light. They have an inherent sensitivity to photons and this is based on the energy of the incoming photons, the scintillator thickness, it's composition (the "Z" of the material), and geometry among other things. This group found that the moth eye model was capable of enhancing that sensitivity by reducing reflection by increasing a property known as "broadband anti-reflection".
