So all, I just found out I'm going to Hawaii near the end of this year/early next year. Anyone else living/lived there? I'd love to hear some info on it.

(I'm active duty USAF, going to be stationed at Hickam AFB in Oahu.)

I was stationed at USMCAS Kaneohe Bay for 2 years back in 1981-1983 and I loved it. Some of the best years of my life without a doubt. I took advantage of it and took weekend hops to the other islands. Make sure you go to Maui for some great whale watching. The Big Island is awesome. So many, many things to do and I did it almost entirely on the government courtesy of Special Services. I rented a beach house for my brother's honeymoon and saved him a bundle.
    You'll have a blast.

Damn thats cool man. Make sure you hit up all the different beaches like Sandy Beach, North Shore, Bellows and not just Waikiki. If your into the club scene there are all kinds of bars/clubs down the strip just depends what you're into. Is there anything specific that you want to know?

My wife and I recently honeymooned there...it was paradise in every sense of the word.

Bar none, the most beautiful place I have ever been, period.

I only went to two islands (Maui and Kauai), one week each. My suggestion, spend a fair amount of time in Kauai. Its nearly an untouched part of the world for the past...well, forever since the island's creation. Go hiking...a lot. Bring a map, a compass and provisions to last maybe 2 days at ration.

    Im jealous.

Spend some time on the big island. Volcano National Park is amazing, and Kailua-Kona and Hilo are both really laid back towns to explore.

If you're a science nerd at all, the Big Island is the place to be. I'd love to go back and rent a car and just do the parks, the observatory, and some different colored beaches. And drink lots of Kona coffee.

Also, you should make your way over to Maui and drive the Hana Highway to Haleakala National Park. Absolutely beautiful.
