Monta Ellis has informed the Milwaukee Bucks that he will opt out of the last year of his deal, according to league sources.

Sources say the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers have interest in Ellis, although the Lakers could get Ellis only via an unlikely sign-and-trade deal.

Monta Ellis is the personification of an Anti-Spur player.

What's even funnier is that he turned down a 36m/3y extension from the Bucks

Ellis did the Bucks a favor. I know they aren't a FA destination so you would expect some overpaying, but he isn't worth even close to the 11 million he opted out of, let alone 12M a year for the next 3. At best he should be making Jamal Crawford type money ($5.5 million/6 million a year)

    Uh, what?

Edited to add: anyone have a good explanation for why the Spurs want Ellis?

Ok, that would actually make some sense, I guess.

Jerry Stackhouse and Jason Terry were both gunners without a conscience who reinvented themselves as solid system players, so I suppose Ellis has a shot at making the same transition.

I have no understanding of this. Monta has a lot of creative skill, but he's a terrible basketball player.

He was good his 3rd season next to Baron, and if he yielded his skills properly he'd be good. But I wouldn't want to pay him big money.
