Getting the Mills/Diaw/Green contracts done would be a very nice start to the offseason.
Sam Amick had an interesting line in his article about the Spurs re-signing Danny Green:
We know about Duncan but that's the first time that we've heard the Spurs are confident about re-signing Diaw and Mills. In fact, we haven't even heard that the Spurs are truly determined to re-sign either player. He was deemed one of the many free agent priorities for the Spurs, who sources say are confident that they'll be able to come to terms with Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw and Patty Mills in the near future.

And since Amick broke the news about Green's re-signing, there might be some truth behind the "sources".
Getting the Mills/Diaw/Green contracts done would be a very nice start to the offseason.
Good new, too.
I would like to know what kind of contract Duncan would get.
I never doubted the Spurs could resign their own free agents.
I'm more concerned about what they're going to do about Bonner, Blair, and possibly Neal.
Meh - Danny was the most important piece to me. Patty (I like personally, even though I am not sure he can really excel at the back up PG role) was really an after thought - especially since De Colo might come over and the Spurs already have Neal.
Diaw, I am very worried about his contract, especially the length. I don't think it's a great option even though it's an obvious option and has potential (look at what they did starting Tim/Diaw).
Ken Berger @KBergCBS
After flurry out of the free-agent gate, agents beginning to see things dry up for second-tier players. "It's ground to a halt," said one.
Good news for the Spurs and their players they need to re-sign.
Now that we signed Green...if we sign all of Diaw/De Colo/Mills/decent big, how much money does that leave Tim if he's last?
We re-signed a FA, which already puts us ahead of Dallas.
Tim can sign for max still.
Hopefully Mills is an upgrade over Neal running the point. The Spurs didn't have a decent backup PG since Speedy Claxton. That was 2003, I'm not sure why it took so much time draft or sign a good player at that position.
Flipping Bonner+Blair for a serviceable backup big (Diaw would start) should be the next priority...
Ah yes, Bird rights? Good to be reminded
This is who the Spurs have under contract:
Manu Ginobili: $14,107,492
Tony Parker: $12,500,000
Stephen Jackson: $10,059,750
Tiago Splitter: $3,944,000
Matt Bonner: $3,630,000
Kawhi Leonard: $1,809,840
Cory Joseph: $1,074,720
DeJuan Blair: $1,054,000
Gary Neal: $854,389

$49,034,191 Total
Let's say Green's salary is $4 million this upcoming season (it could be more or less depending on the structure; the Spurs may have frontloaded it to maximize cap space down the line). Now we're at $53,034,191.
The Spurs have the full MLE at their disposal ($5M) as well as the BAE (~$2M). If it takes that entire amount of money to sign Diaw, Mills and De Colo, which it very well might, the Spurs will be at $60,034,191.
At that point of the process, since the Spurs used the full MLE, they'll face a hard cap at the apron -- approximately $74 million. So if it all works out like this, the Spurs can sign Duncan up to a maximum amount of a little less than $14 million. If Holt doesn't want to pay any luxury tax, Duncan's contract would have to be a little less than $10 million.
With Lorbek gone, no way Pop trades Bonner. Diaw isn't an 3's specialist.
Unless there's a trade, I don't see how a six guard rotation is going to work except on nights Manu and/or Tony rest.
So Timvp is correct too - at this point, the Spurs can still sign Duncan to max. However, if they use the full MLE (which they have not yet, but likely will) at that point what Tim can sign for will change due to the apron as Timvp described.
Just feels like this is leading us to the same outcome in the playoffs. Lakers, Clippers getting better, OKC already beat us. Would just be nice to have another big against all those bigs on those teams
Diaw shot 50% from 3 in the playoffs... possibly fluke, but anything over 35% is more useful than that ginger choker...
Tbh, I would like to see a shortened rotation of 2 PG's, 3 swings and 3 bigs, but with better backup players. The 2 complete teams rotation works fine in RS, but the Spurs will lack in talent at some point.
You consider a guy a hair less quick than Tony with the range of Neal to be an after thought? He actually IS what the Mavs thought they had in Roddy.
Don't worry about Diaw. He just turned 30, and his game is not based on athleticism. There shouldn't be any dropoff, even over the four years of an MLE deal.
Amen.
Two of those three mentioned should be packaged and jettisoned.
Blair and Neal have value as cheap NBA caliber rotation players. Bonner would probably only have value as a near ending contract.
We disagree.
If my math is correct, the minimum Green's contract can be this upcoming season is $3,720,500. The maximum is $4,278,575.
