Texas A&M - Kevin Sumlin
Texas - Charlie Strong (lol)
Rank 'em.
TCU - Gary Patterson
Texas Tech - Kliff Kingsbury
Texas A&M - Kevin Sumlin
Texas - Charlie Strong (lol)
Are our choices supposed to be based off how fun they make water being thrown on them? I don't get it.
1. Strong
2. Patterson
3. Sumlin
4. Kingsbury
based off of who would develop me best as a player and simply not play the most athletic or gifted ones
Patterson
Sumlin
Kingsbury
Strong.
What a boring ass coach.
your #4 pick took a 3 star QB and helped develop him into a Heisman winner.
Just sayin.
Honestly, I don't like the swag thing Sumlin and Kingsbury have going on. I've always liked my coaches to be some sort of authority figure, not people I can relate to. Strong seems a little slow to me honestly but I'd still rather play for him over the first two.
Top 3 in Texas would be Patterson, Coker and Briles imo.
johnny manziel was a freak in high school. http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/show...johnny+manziel
even we knew that at the time. just because kingsbury and sumlin have a system in place that highlights certain talents, doesn't mean they develop them.

I wasn't the one that gave him the 3 star rating.
Rivals missed. Not me.
Lol you knew a Heisman was coming
K
you seem to think 3 star prospects are worthless. so do you think colt mccoy was groomed into a heisman candidate by mack brown?
So do you just pick and choose when to give credit and when to give blame? Can't credit Mack with McCoy and can't credit Sumlin or Kliff with Johnny. When do you give coaches credit? Let me guess, Strong for Louisville's defense?
I'm playing in the PAC12, where they know what QB play is really all about.
Forget the fact I'm a running back.
the OP didn't specifically say what position would you rather play under them. i'd say those coaches are very specialized or recruit assistants who are. Strong seems more like an all-around coach, plus in hindsight all of those coaches had a player who was a heisman candidate. it's interesting to take team's F/+ from years past and compare them with recruiting rankings to give a rough estimate of how the team was developed.
as far as development goes i'd rather have a coach who focused on more discipline and demanded that i was at my very best rather than tell me how great beyonce and i are. matter of personal opinion, of course.

I simply questioned the excitement over a 3 star prospect that would have been asked to play defense at UT.
And yeah, coaching staff at UT deserves some rare credit for actually coaching a kid up in McCoy's case.
Sure. But if you're a QB, there's no denying what Kliff has done regardless of Beyonce.
He's a 2 time offensive coordinator of the year with two different schools in two different conferences.
At Houston, Case Keenum broke all sorts of records
A&M Johnny won the Heisman
Tech: Webb and Mayfield both got big 12 offensive player if the week awards
Mayfield got big 12 freshman offensive player of the year.
As a walk on.
coach kliff told them not to mess with the hair. classic.
But he has fun with his players so he can't put them into the NFL.
Too much Beyonce. Not enough discipline.
It's not complicated. If I'm a defensive player, Strong or Patterson. Offfense, the other two and Briles.
thanks for your input on the topic and providing your own list. you contribute a lot to the discussion.
ditto to the farmer
and just because you have a coach who enables you to put up stats in college doesn't mean it will translate well into the NFL. on the contrary, the game manager types tend to last longer.
