Thanks turkish spurs fan, jyra, and yavozerb!
Man, I'm so excited for this kid to come stateside. What do you guys think his ceiling is?
Thanks turkish spurs fan, jyra, and yavozerb!
Concur. That's what makes the Think Tank great. I can't wait for the season to start so that the Tank will get back to its regular use.
He turns 22 next month, so he still has time to improve, but I still see his ceiling as a solid rotation player in the NBA as a shooting specialist, which is pretty good for a second round pick. Then again, he might not cut it. Personally, I think he'll make it.
I could see Daye not being re-signed next summer and Bertans taking his place as project 3/4 shooter (a decent upgrade imo).
His ideal ceiling is probably Peja Stojakovic, quite smiliar in size and playing style. It's obviously too early to tell if he ever gets there but I'm confident that he cracks the rotation as soon as he comes over.
Wow. Stojakovic was a 3x All-star and 2x All-NBA'er. You think he can be that good?
I don't see him cracking the rotation for a while. The Spurs will have a glut of forwards next season. Anderson looks like he'll be a lock to get minutes in 2015, so it'll depend on one of them being able to play the two. Then add in LJC, and it's going to be a battle.
No, I don't think that he will be that good but I would think it's natural to start with a high ceiling. Peja was much more productive in Europe before he made the jump to the NBA and also was more solidly built. But Bertans possesses the same quick, high release and is much more than just a stationary shooter.
That's going to depend on wether the coaching staff sees Bertans as a 3 exclusively or tries playing him as a stretch 4. I would agree that Bertans probably won't see many minutes at SF but I can see him taking the Bonner role as a situational shooter. So spot minutes instead of regular rotation is probably the safer bet.
bad performance againts olympiacos by bertans. 1/7 2pts 2/9 3 pts. he had too much freedom h did not deserve and could'nt use it. laboral baskonia likes players make look good giving freedom and get money seliing them but this time the strategy cost them a surprise win away.
Bertans with a great game yesterday, 19 pts (7-11 fg, 5-9 3pt fg) 10 rbs.......Anyone watch this game?

I haven't been able to find a "replay" of the game but his team was up by 38 at one point, so I wouldn't expect it to be too interesting. Still the 10 rebounds are very encouraging to see.
Here is a nice assist from Bertans in that game: http://acbtv.acb.com/video/7594-lacb...para_shengelia
Interesting Euroleague game coming up today against Crvena Zvezda featuring fellow draft pick Nemanja Dangubic. Should be fun seeing those two match up with each other.
Dangubic on the bench so far, Bertnas missed two jumpers and just scored on a fastbreak slam! And he is rocking a red beard...
Crvena Zvezda blows out Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 86-66.

Pretty quiet game for Bertans, 6pts+4rebs. He never got open from three and had to force a couple of shots. That one handed jam was nice.
Dangubic didn't put any remarkable stats but played a big role in shutting down the P&R attack by blanketing Thomas Huertel (who usually is the main playmaker for Vitoria) especially in the second half where he was matched up with him for almost 15 straight minutes.
Aside from the fact that this Latvian kid almost has an awesome forename, Bertans has the ability to become a legit sharp-shooting small forward in the NBA.
Bertans’ shooting mechanics are excellent and he owns an ultra-quick release to his stroke. The 2011 draftee is a pure shooter who can knock down shots running off screens or creating off the dribble (even though the latter element is still a work in progress).
Bertans improved his passing game and dished out a number of eye-opening dimes this season. Yet, he’s still averaging just one-or-fewer assist per game. The 22-year-old Euroleague veteran signed a long-term deal with Spanish club Laboral Vitoria this offseason, and is playing significant minutes in the Spanish ACB — the toughest league in Europe.
Bertans’ coach is Italian tactician Marco Crespi, who once served as director for international scouting for the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns. Bertans is shooting 100 percent from the free throw line and over 40 percent from beyond the arc this season. His range is probably the deepest in Europe since Mirza Teletovic left for the NBA.
He’s ranked 11th in the Euroleague in three-pointers made and seventh among the Top 10 ACB scorers with 14 points per game, just 2.3 points shy of No. 1.
Despite standing 6-foot-10, Bertans isn’t considered an elite rebounder, grabbing a total of 3.5 boards per game this season. His feet-movement is slow and figure is slim, though he’s added a few pounds of muscle. Bertans isn’t a brilliant athlete, but has some bounce and could defend the small forward position. He’s by no means an NBA stretch four-man. Bertans also has a history of knee injuries.
He’s a player who can spread the floor, and could end being a contributor for San Antonio down the road.

^The only thing that article did for me was frustrate me that the Spurs didn't draft Jokic.
After yesterdays blowout his coach Marco Crespi was fired. The team was playing pretty crappy D in most games but it's just a really unbalanced roster which lacks any decent defensive players (I mean Sasha Vujacic is starting..). Accroding to this report back then the Spurs "asked to put him with Marco Crespi for his development", so they can't be too happy about this developement.
If you wanna get player development done right...
I can't wait for him to replace Austin Daye...
Amen, turn...
Daye to Bertans
Ayers to LJC
i like Bertans, and it would be cool to have him sooner rather than later.
I dont know how this dude can be worse than Daye and Ayres.
He should be developing here working with Spurs staff imo. Might pick up some bad habbits over there.
