I feel like reviews in general are a bit too negative for this one. Sure, some things would've been better left unsaid, but it's still an interesting movie with a few great scenes and some unexpected comedy. And of course another very good performance by my Jake G.

I watched "The Blackboard Jungle" over the last two days. Grim business to realize how out of hand things were in the public school system post WWII. Rape, attempted murder, ADW in & out in front of the classroom. Vic Morrow stands out as the main youth. He does a superb job. I usually enjoy Glenn Ford, but, he's a little overdone here. Anne Francis plays his wife and she's too weak an actor to fill this role. Poitier plays his role straight up & down and nothing to speak of here. Louis Calhern a splendid actor is a treat as a bitter teacher. Richard Kiley, always a stalwart plays another teacher who is ridden out on a rail by the kids.

^Yep, they double featured those two films during that time frame. The sewer scene (makes him eat the diamonds) at the end of MM screws the legacy of that film. Damn!

But, before that it's an excellent story. The diamond district scene is pure genius.

& Scheider is just at premium prime there in that dark suit. Christ!
Book is good too, and oddly enough there is a sequel called Brothers, the last book he wrote.

I'll make a note to read that---do they confirm/develop the sexual relationship between Scheider/Devane characters, Lee?

Ironically I caught it on the cable yesterday. Many good parts, but, one that caught my eye again:::when Olivier stabs Scheider to death. Just the way he backs out abruptly after sticking him adds to the violence of the act.

It's been a few years since I reread it, but I am fairly sure that's just in the movie.

reading the Wiki, sounds like William Goldman liked the character so just wrote a sequel as a novel and found a clever way of making him survive.
Scheider is the though, easily one of my favorite actors. I was practically raised on Blue Thunder tbh.

as for Marathon Man, i saw glimpses of it as a kid then watched it again a few years ago. it's a brutal movie. apparently they cut out some really hardcore and it sounds disgusting. I don't know what it is about 70s movies (the film stock, just the overall griminess of that decade etc..) but pornos and horror films from that era are far more effective to me then modern stuff.

What I remember most about that movie as a kid was watching it on VHS, and for some random reason one of the previews before the movie had a pair of s in it.

Watched the movie a few years back again. It's aight.

^I've been able to stomach one movie of his:::"Radio Days." That's it. It's a regular movie where he isn't being an asshole. There is a part in that, many parts in truth, but, one in particular that is just the goods:::Him as a child is taken by his aunt and her beau to Radio City Music Hall. I God's it's a beautiful sequence. I love it so.

Caught the end of "In The Heat Of The Night" '67 this evening. Just after Poitier & Steiger have their scene in Steiger's living room, about loneliness, alcohol and insomnia. It is a powerful sequence. Followed closely by Poitier's scene with the hamlet's back alley abortionist. She pleads with Poitier not to take her "livelihood" away. "I just wanted better." He agrees, just wants the name of the girl coming for the D&C so he can ID the killer he's hunting. It too is a superlative scene and should not be missed.

Caught another standard on the cable last nite:::"Breakdown", from '97. Stars Kurt Russell as a regular fellow who along with his wife Kathleen Quinlan are targeted by a hard core gang of thieves, kidnappers & murderers while traveling from Massachusetts to San Diego for a new start after their financial collapse. The setting is the Southwest. The gang is led by J.T. Walsh who does a splendid job here. He ratchets up the confrontation and tension. Without him I cannot imagine this film being serviceable. "Your wife, 5'5", dark hair upstairs and downstairs. Give me my ing money, Jeff." He's lethal.

Russell holds his own as he is apt to do in pedestrian fare which this film lurks. It's fun though and comes in at just over 90 minutes, but, seems to play longer, to it's credit.

I've always liked Walsh and he did a lot of work before his untimely death. The remainder of the cast is a bit underwhelming as they tend to overdo their acting chores.

One can pick this up at any point and enjoy it.

It was a Montgomery Clift weekend on TCM.

The highlight for me is of course "A Place In The Sun" with he & Elizabeth Taylor, from 1951. This was still before his automobile accident so he is still a beautiful sight, sheer perfection. She matches him. He's a social climber who is y. He's already taken up with the squalid S ey Winters, a timely clinger when Taylor finds him in the billiard room. The meeting is beyond description. The music here in this sequence is from heaven. "Alice"-Winters is maddening. The absolute kicker? He impregnates her in his reckless rush. It is said that Clift informed the production that her role was too aggravating. But, he is wrong. Winters conducts this film, and she was left alone. She is gloriously + alarmingly stifling. You want to kill her. So does the Clift character and it is there that film turns and ascends into the ages. This film is an American masterpiece.

    Film. American film

-Pretty good, I enjoyed it. 7.5/10
-Good s bag characters are hard to come by
-The scene with his kids at the hotel showed depth to the character which was nice. Just a raw character, would watch again.

Goodman's character was more ridiculous than the alien ship being blown up by a molotov tail. everything he said was for the sole purpose of creating tension and animosity. And that shelter of his was a total fail: he had a barrel of acid and a spare room, but no gas masks or hasmat suits or two-way/AM radio or anything useful? and the air filtration room could only be accessed from the outside? and the movie never tried to shed any light on the source of his insanity or the situation with his daughter. cheap and lazy gimmicks

I'm watching an LMN movie (Indiscretion/2016) tonite that stars Mira Sorvino as a woman who has a brief, but, intense affair with an artist. The movie's plot is not the point. The act of aging is a cruel eventuality and it's not been kind to Sorvino.

Lee captured this woman as girl in his "Summer of Sam" (SOS). & he captured her at the zenith of her beauty. & he got it down onto celluloid. & nothing is going to change that. Absolutely nothing.........

    - "Rain all you want, you son-of-a- ."

    - Bruce Willis - "Armageddon"
