I don't think I've ever seen any family or fiends or people around me actually put down their own dog for non health reasons.

Dog bites severe enough to be reported is pertinent to this. Why the should we care about little bites that doesn't actually do anything.
It's like getting into fights with your spouse. But if it's bad enough to call the cops, that's very relevant information. The lack of other information doesn't discredit this information.

A study was done by dogsbite.org from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008 and analyzed data gathered from 88 dog bite incidences that caused death to a U.S. citizen. The study was done to determine what breeds of dogs were the leading cause of injury or in this case death. The report concluded that 19 dog breeds contributed to 88 fatalities.
