Possibly a big day for the Spurs with FA signings and trades.
Yeap, the end of the 3 months period for Williams is the same day that the end of the moratorium.

A player can't be traded during 3 months after signing a contract. Williams has signed with Spurs on April 8th. He can't be traded before July 8th.
Thanks. That's what I was looking for.

Spurs can take back a contract(s) totaling $8.3 mil in annual salary. How much could a team save this season by waiving Williams before his contract becomes guaranteed?

And, of course, if a team sends back a contract(s) with more than one year left, then that team could save ~$8.3 mil next season.

Wasn't there a thread discussing the idea of the Pistons wanting to S&T Sheed. Could this be were the plot thickens?

I also remember hearin de Colo say that he would pull out of the draft if he wasn't getting a guarnteed contract. Now, he could have been just sayin that so that other teams wouldn't draft him or if the Spurs offered him one. Either way, if he comes now, it wouldn't hurt (if Pop treats him right and plays him sum to get his feet wet) or if he stays in Europe and plays in Spain even better cuz he'll get plenty PT and should be able to develop himself.

Asuming Williams contract is fully non-guaranteed (which is likely the case), the other team will have Finely+Bonner under contract for $5.76M. They can maybe also save a little more money by working on a buyout with Finley.

Why would the Pistons do a sign and trade of Wallace with the Spurs?

That is a nice chunk of savings while getting a servicable big man in Bonner to add another type of bigman to the rotation.

De Colo couldn't pull out of the draft. He was automatically eligible.

Right. So just like the Jefferson trade, trading with the Spurs for expiring and not fully guaranteed contracts could save a team a significant amount of money, provided that team is fine with minimal basketball value in return (other than, say, a future 1st round pick).

Williams being traded isn't the most likely explanation for why he isn't on the roster.
Most likely explanation are that he is injured or that Spurs have told him that they don't count on him for next year and Marcus will be waived to play for another SL team.

I think it is a waste to have Hill there. Let him stay in the gym and play a couple of minutes. He has shown he can play, now he needs to develope and summer league is not the place for that.

IMO, the most interesting surprise name is Marcus Vinicius. He was a damn interesting prospect a couple of years ago.
He showed some skills 3 or 4 years ago but in the last 2 seasons he’s been playing terrible.

Hill playing full time point in SL is a good thing for his development.

Ya, why would they waive MW when they can use him in a trade to match salaries and net the team nice savings by having him fully non guaranteed?

So, I guess the threat I meant to say was that he was gonna not come over if not guaranteed a contract

    What happened to him?
Last year some reports indicated that He didn’t have a good work ethic but I think he’s been working hard because if not I doubt the Spurs would offer him this chance.
He played in Spain this year and I haven’t heard about him

    Summer League Roster
The Spurs have announced their summer league roster. The team will be coached by Don Newman.

    Malik Hairston, G

    James Gist, F

    Nando De Colo, G

    George Hill, G

    Donnell Taylor, G

    Squeaky Johnson, G

    Eric Dawson, F/C

    Antonio Anderson, G

    Marcus Vinicius, F

    Romel Beck, G/F

    Ian Mahinmi, C

    Jack McClinton, G

    Alonzo Gee, G

    DeJuan Blair, F

I’m surprised not to see Marcus Williams’ name, and disappointed at the omission of Austin Nichols. The omission of Williams doesn’t tell us anything about his standing with the team. He’s still under contract with the Spurs.

The inclusion of Nando De Colo is noteworthy. I expected him to play for the French National Team this summer. This should give us an early look at a player who could be on the team in the coming years. From what I understand, his current contract will preclude him from joining the Spurs this season.

All in all, it’s a solid roster. If you count McClinton, Hairston and Gist, the team contains 6 players who are likely to make the Spurs’ roster. Squeaky Johnson and Eric Dawson are great additions because of their history with the Toros. The rest of the roster features good prospects that could be a big help in Austin, although Donell Taylor is a mystery to me.

Quin Snyder is an assistant coach.
