    FG% what year is this?

Kawhi's eFG% is ridiculous, though..the league caters more towards offensive players than it did during Duncan/Robinson's time, to be fair..

Kawhi is legitimately on pace to be the second greatest Spur ever at only 25 ..

To me if he wins the le as the Top dog for San Antonio, it should seal it..An MVP+ Finals appearance, and it is opens the debate between him and D-Rob..

Larry Bird breathed another decade of contention into this franchise, tbh ..There is no way Timmy/Manu/TP/Pop stick around for this long if they don't get Kawhi and he doesn't become the player he is today..

KL like Brent has a small sample size. Let's see
how it goes when he's 36 and carrying a bunch of dead weight French friend ers around.

Only wins matter. If it doesn't cause wins it's not worth talking about.

eFG% is valuable in terms of measuring pure offensive points added. TS% skews towards people who take and make a lot of FT. You could be great in both areas but turn the ball over a lot and still use up offensive possessions. And degree of difficulty matters (how much of defense you're drawing). Kawhi's eFG% was achieved with more difficulty than a guy like Barry.

That said, your defense is at an advantage when starting from a dead ball / made shot situation than live action which creates fast breaks and crossmatch issues (wonder what actual PPP is). Higher FG%, lower TO% (especially live ball ones) and higher FT rate is a boon to your team's defense. Offensive rebounding without selling out also creates more possessions and chances for your defense to start from an inbounds.

Porker can't even crack 50% on two point attempts when half his playoff attempts were uncontested layups.

The most amazing thing about Kawhi's numbers, IMO, is where he started. This is only his sixth year, and those first three years are averaged in to his career numbers. I don't know how long he can stay on this kind of upward trajectory, but so far it's been amazing.

One of my pet stats, especially for the playoffs, is FGA's per game or per 36 minutes. What he's done with that this season is eye-popping. It's also responsible for the big jump in his TS%

You say this, yet the rank order is almost identical among these players for both FG% and eFG% (except Manu ranking higher in the latter).

Come on, don't be an "advanced metrics" snob. I'm all in favor of extracting more meaningful information from the raw data, but let's not pretend like basic stats don't tell us anything. Sometimes it's okay to simply ask, how likely is this guy to make his shots?

eFG% is essentially the OBP% to FG% = batting average in baseball. Just because the latter is classified as an advanced stat (OBP% is now mainstream) while the former is traditional doesn't mean the latter remains more valuable. Our understanding of how stats impact the game evolves.

A person who takes a lot of threes, like Manure, is always going to have a lower field goal percentage than a guy who feasts on uncontested layups, like Porker. But the three-point shot is worth three points instead of two, tbh, so it makes it more valuable even if it is shot at a lower percentage tbh.

Would we say a DeAndre Jordan is a good shooter tbh? But look at his really high field goal percentage, they say!

Does a southern Mexican (as yourself) even understand stats?

Harlem thankfully provided us with some comedic relief by posting a list of that stat role players like Mills, Green, and Manure ever being more efficient than Duncan and Robinson lmfao

There's nothing 'weird' about that, it's just the way the game evolved. Cucky probably also has a much higher eFG% than TD and DRob.

The league is setting new records on 3P attempts and makes for a season, it's a shot that it's become easier and easier to hit, and has spurred a breed of shooting specialists.

Rules have also changed to make it harder for bigs to score in the paint.

Anyone who shoots less than 88% at the FT line gets dinged by TS%. That's what the calculation was based on. So guys like Duncan who shot a LOT of FT's, and only made about 70% of them? They get the kicked out of them on TS%. Throw in the fact that Tim didn't shoot 3's, and of ing course his TS% is going to be low. Doesn't mean TS% is worthless - you just have to understand it's not a universal stat. Just like all the other stats.

You're not the guy to be lecturing other people about understanding what the stats mean.

And just to be clear - most of the guys on that list aren't nearly as efficient without Tim Duncan in there drawing double teams and/or keeping help defenders in his neighborhood, so that the other guys could shoot all those wide-open 3's. You won't find that on a stat sheet, but it's as true as anything that does show up there.

It's all relative. I do think it's helpful looking at 2pt FG% and 3FG% separately. Stat tracking also looks at FG% by distance, play type and opponent distance which are all valuable in comparing guys. It'd show how limited DeAndre is if not getting thrown lobs.

Heres something novel - half court heaves at the end of a half shouldn't count as a FG attempt unless they go in. I know stat tracking looks at them separately but why not encourage guys to take more vs. hurting stats in a regular season game?
