Seven black city firefighters passed over for promotion because they did not score high enough on a written exam will rise to captains' ranks and get cash payments if the Houston City Council approves a lawsuit settlement Wednesday.

As noted in the article: this is a problem to be solved, not a case to be won.
It's pretty ing strange that brothas can't score "high" enough on these exams. I'd like to take a look at this myself. Maybe they are inferior applicants, or maybe that test asks about Leave It to Beaver and All In the Family and swimming techniques and Dr. Pepper (all things black people have an aversion to, which would consequently make the test racist).
heh Stringer Bell."There clearly were concerns with respect to the exam and the impact of the exam," he said. "As we looked at it, and as the court looked at it, we recognized that changes needed to be made to the exam so that it could properly validated for (equal opportunity) purposes."
I'm curious about that test too. What made that test racist? I remember people came out of the woodworks to bash these guys saying "if you're dumb, why should you pass?" but it turned out that the test really was racist.
"Lowering the bar" is humiliating for those it supposedly helps.
the one's who are taking the promotions? have you asked them?
Thanks for not understanding anything.
Heck DarrinS, everyone at ST lowers the bar for you every day when it comes to debating, and you still rarely clear the hurdles.
I hesitate to post this but here goes.......so much material

Thanks!
Interesting, those sample questions all seem to be taken from required readings. I can only assume, based on this sample, that any questions about the test itself stem from the ability of participants to comprehend the text. Seems straightforward enough tho.
More affirmative action...
It wasn't about lowering the bar. They passed the test. It's about racial quota's. There were others who scored higher than them.
25% of the questions on the sample test are about diversity...
Are you KIDDING ME?
Might it be more important to ask say... WHAT THE PUTS OUT FIRE?
It was a captains test, not a fireman's test. Go back to the web site and look how different the fire fighters test is.
