I don't see the need for a smartphone when you have a tablet.
I personally don't see a need for a tablet when you have a smartphone. Now, it doesn't mean I don't want one, just that I don't need one, hence why I'm interested in the NC. And I've typed this on my iPhone while on the go, so I definitely like portability.
I don't see the need for a smartphone when you have a tablet.
What do you mean you quickly run out of things to do with it?
I found the tablet as a great replacement for my laptop while on the road.
I mostly need email, browsing, slingbox, vnc, ssh. It's much more portable, better battery life. There's a load of apps if I need to do something funky, or I can just use VNC and connect the the office's desktop.
Sure, sometimes I need to put it on my lap to type something fast. So what? I need to do the same with the laptop.
My wife actually replaced her desktop with it. She has the basic email+web+photos+print need, and can do everything there without having to wait for the PC to boot or messing with Windows.
It all depends on what you do. I much rather watch my slingbox on a iPad screen than my iPhone. VNC is also much more usable on the tablet than on the phone.
I don't get the whole need vs want argument when discussing consumer electronics.
I can typ fast on my ipad with our without the bluetooth keyboard. I type over 100 wpm on a natural keyboard so its no stretch that I can probably type 50-60wpm on the ipad.
True - it's not like we NEED cell phones, period. But I get what the argument is getting at. I personally do not want a tablet because I don't feel a particular need for it in my everyday life.
But , I'm sure I'd find a need for it if someone handed me a Galaxy Tab or an iPad for free.
Fads are "wants".
the honeymoon period is over with the touchpad. the apps are a real problem. the biggest problem is the lag. the software is incomplete. cant mul ask, sometimes i even get too many cards with one card open.
And vice-versa
Well if that is your standard then sure - tablets are a fad. I certainly don't need one. Pretty bad standard for what is a fad, though. My laptop is also a want. I don't need it. Guess that laptops are a fad.
TVs are a fad? That's a pretty long fad.
Yeah - definitely don't need a TV. HDTVs are most definitely a fad. Don't need those either.
I understand where DMC is coming from though. Just a poor description.
Netbooks were certainly fads.
My video games are a fad then. I don't need them at all.
Video games are the ultimate fad.
Dishwasher = fad if there ever was one
You are using a logical fallacy called converse error.
I said fads are wants. I didn't say all wants are fads.
Dogs are animals
"My cat is an animal, so I guess my cat is a dog"
This is true. We never use ours. We only have a couple dirty at any given time, so our dishwasher has sat idle for years.
My dog is a fad.
First, a smartphone is much cheaper than a tablet. $200 vs $500 for a tablet. As for the need vs want argument, it's definitely a legit argument when funds are tight. My phone was used at work as well as home so I definitely had a need for the email capability especially.
A tablet is a want, and as such, I can't justify dropping $400-$500 on a tablet.
You don't need a smartphone for email. A smartphone is definitely a want.
This thread is a fad, in a few day/weeks it will be gone.
First off, I'm talking work email, which can't be connected with just a dumb phone. Second, I said especially the email aspect, but that wasn't the only reason.
You have to be so damn argumentative don't you?
What are you wanting to do with it? Basic web surfing and word processing is pretty easy.
