“I want San Antonio to win,” Cuban said on 105.3 The Fan’s “Ben and Skin Show” on Friday. “I want Tim Duncan to hit a game-winning shot to win Game 7, then go to the Finals, do the exact same thing, hit a game-winning shot in Game 7, run down the tunnel, never to be seen from again.

“I want him to retire on the spot. I hope he gets that last ring and it’s all the incentive he needs to retire.”

His motives? I'm guessing here but...

    1. Don't have to play against Timmy anymore.
    2. Next year's Spurs depleted.
    3. Makes Mavs look better by taking us to 7.
    4. Possibly hates Heat more than us??? (Not sure about this one.)

He thinks that the Mavs can compete better with the Spurs taking a step back or two.

I'd prefer Spurs win the le, and Timmy DIDN'T retire. But maybe George Karl was onto something...

I'd actually kind of want Timmy and Manu to retire if they win the le this year. I'd much rather see Duncan go out holding a championship above his head, instead of walking to the locker-room with his head down in despair. That sight would kill us as Spurs fans tbh.

To me, the 2-4 extra years of sucking would be worth that one moment.

I certainly agree with your sentiment and I remember D-Rob's last game as one of my fondest Spurs memories. But, I'd like to go for a repeat if we win. I think this Spurs team could be a serious contender for 1 or 2 more years minimum after this season. It really is an ensemble cast now..

If he sees Duncan walking off into the sunset, would he cross the street?

Would you have wanted them to retire if Diaw grabbed that rebound last year?

The funny thing is, Cuban is very close to needing to blow it up in Dallas, too. Dirk can't have but a year or two left. He'll be 36 by next year, and is primarily a perimeter player. Most of their key pieces are over 30, and the one that isn't, Monta Ellis, is right on the cusp.

If things work out the way we all hope, I would love for Tim and Manu to come back for a chance at a repeat. Why not? They would all be a year older but I think we would still be in the mix for le contenders next year as well.

They should and the way Pop is managing minutes, these guys might be able to play 2 or 3 more years depending on what they want. Pop can continue to reduce their minutes while the team continues to win.

Definitely wouldn't have been against it. It's harder for me to say yes right now, simply due to the fact this is arguably the best basketball the Spurs have played in the past 7 years or so. But who knows how I would've felt at that exact moment.

I would have wanted him back. The only way I'd want Tim to retire after this playoffs is if he blows out his knee and would be looking at a Derrick Rose level recovery.

It would be a story book ending, but I'm selfishly not ready for it. He's still just so effective as a player that I could see him playing another two with no drop off. Whether the Spurs could still compete in those two years is up for debate, but I see no reason they can't be in the discussion. Praying he sticks around just a little bit longer.
