    Those hands

If he begins to draw more fouls and create more for himself the Spurs are gonna be sick.
There was a period of a few weeks last year that he was really going to his mid range jump shot and it was going in on the reg. Then he went back to threes and cuts to the basket. Not sure why he went backwards but the kid can shoot. If he can mix the mid range, 3 and slashes all up with some consistency, he should be in line for MIP and we will be in for an awesome season.

You can't live in the mid range unless your name is Nowitski. It's too inefficient, and the Spurs are all about the advanced stats. In SA's offense, it should really only be used as a change of pace to make them honor your shot, and not retreat too far on the drive.

Yes, let's dwell on a negative glitch when he shot them fine for TWO YEARS.

I know it'll be fine, and was probably only blip in an otherwise great game today. Was nice seeing him making plays and racking up some assists.

    The X-Files: Kawhi Leonard

In the lead-up to the 2013-14 NBA season, Grantland will examine key players — X factors — for contending teams. The series begins today with the San Antonio Spurs' Kawhi Leonard.

The lasting image of the 2013 NBA Finals, an all-time classic series, will always be Ray Allen's season-saving corner 3 — a shot both impossible and inevitable, ludicrously difficult under the most intense pressure that can exist, but also a shot you (and he) could map out in your brain the minute Chris Bosh rebounded LeBron's miss with Allen just to Bosh's right. It was probably the single most important shot in NBA history, and indisputably the most painful moment in the Spurs' franchise history.

But the second-most potent image from that series gives San Antonio legitimate hope that 2012-13 wasn't the last gasp of a proud, aging group. And that image is: HOLY CRAP, KAWHI LEONARD.

Awesome article by Zach Lowe on what the year could be for Kawhi as he grows up further as a NBA player. Keys to watching him progress this year - his play in P&Rs, his passing off the dribble and ball handling on offense...and how much he sustains his stellar defense.

With 1:16 remaining in the second quarter as the San Antonio Spurs were leading the Memphis Grizzlies by 19 points, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili grabbed a rebound and threw a pass down the court to an open Kawhi Leonard for a one-handed slam dunk that brought the AT&T Center to its feet.
Asked after the game Wednesday how the dunk felt, Leonard said, “It felt like any other dunk, it wasn’t anything special.”

“It felt good to get the season started with a win,” said Leonard of the Spurs defeating the Grizzlies in the season opener. “(But) we still have a lot to work on.”

“He just wants me to be aggressive,” said Leonard of what Popovich wants from him on offense this season.

“My mentality has to change,” said Leonard. “I’m just really looking to score for myself and trying to create (offense) for my teammates.”

A man of few words, Leonard allows actions to do the talking at start of third year by Paul Garcia.

    Aaron @DukeOfBexar
Concerning Pop's comments on Kawhi/Bruce... Bowen gave me a good line on Kawhi back in April (cont'd)

    Aaron @DukeOfBexar
"...that's one thing that I hate to hear people say. 'Oh, Kawhi is the next Bruce.' You don't know what he's going to be." (cont'd)

    Aaron @DukeOfBexar
"He can be so much more than me. He's young, he's athletic, and he has future ahead of him that we know nothing about just yet." - Bowen

I'm assuming the Spurs will offer Leonard an extension this summer/next fall. Here are some recent contracts (yes, they are not all small forwards):

    Paul George, 2013, 5 years, $82-90 Million
    Ibaka, 2012, 4 years, $48 Million
Batum, 2012, 4 years, $48 Milliion (with signing bonus, rounding up)
    Tyreke Evans, 2013, 4 years, $44 Million
    Jeff Green, 2012, 4 years, $36 Million

I think the Spurs will wait and see what happens with Gordon Hayward first, as his salary would be a good market indicator, although I think Leonard is worth more. What do you think Leonard will get?

Likely to be somewhere between the Paul George's max contract and Batum's.

Kinda sad that the "Temple of Daye" has 8 more pages of posts than the Church of Kawhi tbh.

always a good sign when you start taking the amazing things Kawhi brings to this team for granted tbh. You think he had a quiet game until you check the box score and realize the kid put up crazy numbers in less than 30min, insane tbh.

Most of the "break glass" crew have pages full of arguments, pro and con. People pretty much like Kawhi, to one degree or another. Not too much to argue over.
