Didn't realize that Darrell Wyatt coached and played at Trinity Valley CC back in the day, but he visited DT Quincy Russell on Tuesday:

“He came down just to see where I’m at in my classes and see if I was still a December guy,” Russell said. “He asked me what was going on and I told him I’m still on pace and I’m taking care of all of my classes and passing every class for this semester. He said they’re going to try to get down here next week or for the spring game to see how I’m doing out here when I’m going through practice and things like that. See how my hands and everything are coming together.”

“Everybody out there supporting me and hoping I get back up there I want to thank them,” he said. “That’s what keeps me pushing, as well as me doing it for my family. I’m going to do everything I can, so I can get myself back in the best position.”

Quotes from 2014 RB Samaje Perine of Pflugerville Hendrickson:

"I really liked it (the UT spring game). I liked how the coaches were straight forward. They told you how it was, what they wanted, and that's how it's going to be if you went there. Mack Brown just told us all the stuff, how they run the business about recruiting. He said they go by the rules, the don't send letters if you're not old enough to get them. They don't do anything illegal. He told us all if he caught any coach breaking the rules even a little, they'd get fired if he ever caught them doing that."

"Major Applewhite, he told us he's not there to make friends with you. He's relying on you to put food on the table for him and his family. He's putting all his trust in you. I like that approach a lot. I like how they're straight forward. There's no BS. They tell you what they want and how they want it."

More quotes from DB Maurice Smith:

"They offered me and Antwuan. They said they don't want to put any pressure on us, just take our time, if we do make a decision to make sure it's something we want to do," Smith said. "They also said that by the time spring is over, they'll probably offer the next two on the list if we haven't committed. I think it's Cole Luke and an out-of-state safety. They said they were going to offer them and basically, the first two who grab the offers will be the ones they take."

"It does to a certain extent. But I kind of want to take my time, take my chances," Smith said. "I'm not saying I'm leaning towards anyone, I'm just going to see how it plays out for me, hope for the best."

Quotes from the father of CB Antwuan Davis after Duane Akina visited Bastrop on Wednesday:

"He (Akina) pretty much spent the day there, watched him work out, watched him run," said Antwuan's father, Anthony Davis.

"We still need to sit down and get further into it, get information from a lot of schools. But personally I don't think the decision will be too tough," Mr. Davis said.

"We're still receiving information from a lot of schools, just trying to see what they have to offer," Mr. Davis said. "Some sound like car salesman, so we cut those pretty short. I don't need anybody to talk fast to me. You can tell which guys are genuine."

"Players go to the NFL from Texas. It's good education. It's not far from home from all," Mr. Davis said. "If he went there and ever needed something, it's right up the road. If he was there, my family could come down and watch him play opposed to being thousands of miles away."

Quotes from 2014 DB Nick Harvey of Lancaster who will be a major priority next year (24/7):

“I really like Texas,” Harvey told Hookem.com. “I like them a lot actually. In fact, they were my dream school growing up. When I was a kid, they were always my favorite team and I wanted to play for them. Now I’m more open of course, but I’ve always liked Texas.”

“I like the way their defense plays and especially how well their defensive backs perform,” said Harvey. “Coach Akina is a great coach and knows how to get the most out of his players. He puts all those guys in the league. Not just a few, but a lot of them are playing in the NFL, so that really stands out a lot to me. He’s very good at what he does.”

“As for the rest of the coaches, I really like the ones I’ve met as well,” Harvey explained. “Just like Akina, they’re real cool. One thing I think that I enjoy the most about them is they make you feel like family. It’s almost as if you’re home while down there. It’s just a great, laid back atmosphere that makes you real comfortable.”

“Since the spring game I haven’t heard much from them, but I know it’s still early,” Harvey said. “I’m not sure if they’ve contacted my coaches or anything, but I’m sure they’ll be by soon for spring football.”

“I’m hoping the coaches invite me back down to Austin,” said Harvey. “I’d like to go to the summer camp for sure. So if they call and ask me down there, I will go for sure.”

According to 24/7, Wyatt went to Fort Worth Southwest yesterday, or will be there today, to see WR Robbie Rhodes. He's up there with WR Eldridge Massington if UT decides to offer another guy at that position.

I would love to have him but he would be better served in that oregon offense, he is the exact jitter bug, scat back type that murders in their wide open offense

Just posted from ESPN Georgia site this week on Von Bell. Interesting to see he has not paid home state Georgia more attention.

    -----------------------

The University of Georgia coaching staff thought they were recruiting a defensive back named Von Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland). But after not seeing him on campus the last four months, they were beginning to think he did not exist. He was not present for the G-Day spring scrimmage last Saturday, but as the players started to board the buses, Bell arrived with his parents and some teammates, much to the surprise of the staff in Athens.

“They thought I was a ghost,” Bell said before breaking out into laughter. “I have been trying to get up there, but we both had things come up, so they were not sure if I was real or not. I had the ACT that morning so I missed the game, but I just wanted to come up and spend time with Coach [Mark] Richt. They were still very excited to see me.”

Shortly after his arrival, the Under Armour All-America Game selection was then escorted by his recruiter, offensive line coach Will Friend, to the Richt’s office, where Bell would spend the next hour catching up with the Bulldogs’ head coach.

From Von Bell to 247 after he made about 10 visits across the country over last month or two. I believe he also has some family in Ohio.

    ---------------

“Ohio State was my favorite visit. I really liked the people. They separated themselves from everyone else. I liked the coaches and the players I met at the position meetings. It was a great experience.”

Good quote from DT Quincy Russell's defensive coordinator at Trinity Valley CC (24/7):

“He's committed to Texas and until Texas tells us otherwise, we're considering him the property of the University of Texas,” Reed said. “We've kept the other schools away. As of now, he'll be at Texas when he leaves here.”

Quotes from 2014 CB Chris Hardeman of Alief Taylor who will be high on Texas' list (24/7):

“Recruiting has been going really good right now,” Hardeman said. “I’m hearing from Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU and a few other schools. They’re all coming down this spring to take a closer look at me and I’m real excited about that.”

“Coach Giles just recently came by actually,” he told Hookem.com. “We didn’t get to talk much then though, of course. He did tell my coaches he liked what he saw and loved my aggressiveness in one-on-ones. But when I was at the spring game, we got to talk a lot. He actually told me that I was one of the three defensive backs, along with Nick Harvey and Cedric Collins, that Texas was looking to offer next year for 2014.”

“Right now my early favorite is Texas A&M,” Hardeman said. “I have a good relationship with their coaches and like them a lot, plus they have offered, along with SMU. I wouldn’t say they are my ‘top, top’ school, but they are an early favorite at this point in time. Like I said, I want to wait and see what Texas has to say or do before deciding anything. If Texas ended up not offering, I’d like to see how other out-of-state schools recruit me. I guess ones like Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon and LSU would be schools I’d like to check out as well.”

“When you get recruited by Texas it’s a lot different than other schools” explained Hardeman. “They go about it different. The coaches told us before that they want to wait until the other class is completely wrapped up before offering the next class and I understand that. That’s Mack Brown’s system and I have no problem with it. I just have to be patient with them, even though I don’t hear from them as much as I do the others.”

“I really like the Longhorns a lot,” said Hardeman. “Coach Akina is a great coach and does a good job of putting defensive backs in the NFL. That’s a huge eye opener for me is what all he does with his players. That’s one of the main reasons I’m just being patient. I’ll just sit back, relax and wait for that offer.”

Quotes from 2014 DE Derick Roberson of San Antonio Brennan who is also going to be a priority. He moved from Las Vegas during his freshman year (24/7):

“It was my first visit (the UT spring game) and I loved it,” Roberson said. “The coaches were nice and watching the defense on the field, it was fast-tempo a lot of guys flying around. I liked it a lot.”

“I've always liked Texas,” Roberson said. “Ever since I was little that's the school I've always wanted to go to. They were the team I followed growing up. To now be getting recruited by them is an honor.”

Per 24/7, the first new name to pop up during the spring eval period is DB Zach Newman out of Fort Bend Marshall who is 6-2/175 and is making the transition from WR. Some quotes from him:

"We start spring ball on April 30," Newman said. "Coach (Oscar) Giles told me he was going to come watch me then. He told me that Texas wants to see how I look this spring because I'm transitioning from wide receiver to cornerback. I didn't play the position last year, but the coaches tell me I'll do great at it. They say especially with my size, speed, quick feet, long arms and jumping ability. I'm looking forward to showing them what I got."

"I've been hearing from West Virginia, LSU, Houston, Baylor, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Utah and others," said Newman. "I'd like to hear more from Texas for sure though. Hopefully that all picks up soon after Coach Giles sees me this spring. I've always loved Texas and it's my home state, so to have them looking at me is an honor and a blessing. I want to represent the state that I'm from, so I hope Texas likes what they see."
