Royals traded talent away. Pirates have always been .500 so they don't get worthwhile draft picks & waste money on over the hill tix sellers

Now Newcastle is being a disaster on the MLB board.

Listen, I'm a diehard Royals fan.

The Royals and Pirates have been equally bad for a long time. Both teams are always drafting high first round picks for years. But they've made alot of bad personnel moves as well.

Anyway, back to the Royals. They have a very good offense, a very good defense, a really good bullpen. However, they don't have proven starting pitching. They have young pitchers and some decent veterans who are 4-5 starters at best. They can win 75-80 games, but if they want to compete with Detroit, they need to improve the starting pitching. They have young starting pitchers, but they need to prove themselves.

Honestly JamStone, I didn't like the Royals resigning Bruce Chen for 2 years even though it was only 4.5 million per season. He's been effective, but he's still a 4-5 starter at best. I would have given him a 1 year deal, but not a 2-year deal.

The last two years, Bruce Chen has done pretty much the same as Mark Buehrle and Buehrle got close to $15 million a year. I think even at two years, Chen's contract is reasonable. He may be a 4-5 starter, but if that's his role, he's a really good #4 or #5. I don't know how he does it with the stuff he has, but every time I see him pitch, he pitches great.

You're right the Royals need to upgrade the top of their rotation, but let's see what Duffy looks like this year, whether Hochever ever turns the corner, and if Jonathan Sanchez can cut his walks down enough to show the promise a few years ago when he threw that no-hitter. Honestly, if they just had one true bonafide ace (ummm Greinke), their rotation wouldn't be bad at all. Maybe they can parlay some of that young talent into one at the trade deadline. I like the talent on the Royals a lot. And I truly believe Hosmer is going to be an MLB star, maybe even superstar. I think he's that good.

A Royals-Marlins WS would be pretty funny, tbh. I wonder what the preseason odds of that are

A team like the Royals shouldn't be spending 4-5 million for a 4-5 starter, especially a 34 year old pitcher

Dodgers basically got Aaron Harang for the same price but they have much more money to throw around

Your point was that they have "always" been .500 so they don't get worthwhile draft picks. That suggests you talking about every season they have a .500 record, not their overall franchise record. What are worthwhile draft picks?

Last 10 drafts for the Pirates and their first round picks:

    2011: 1st pick
    2010: 2nd pick
    2009: 4th pick
    2008: 2nd pick
    2007: 4th pick
    2006: 4th pick
    2005: 11th pick
    2004: 11th pick
    2003: 8th pick
    2002: 1st pick

You think they're really not getting "worthwhile picks" because they're always .500??? What are "worthwhile" draft picks? , they've had 7 top 5 overall picks in the last 10 drafts. You didn't say they're "overall" .500. You said they're "always" .500. They're not. They haven't come close to sniffing .500 in over a decade. They haven't had a winning record in two decades. Over the past 10 seasons, the Pirates are 259 games under .500. The closest to .500 they've been in that span has been 12 games under .500.

They're not "always" .500, and that's why you were getting blasted.

So you are a fan of yet another team mine owns. First it is the Heat, then the Giants, and now the Braves. All 3 of my pro teams were responsible for your 3 pro teams getting eliminated. That is hilarious.

    It is rather shocking

I am a fan of arguably some of the most likeable franchises in sports.

    - Giants: 9-7 team that won't shut up
    - Phillies: Greatest playoff choke in MLB history?
    - Heat: 3 All Stars isn't enough

Exactly what I was thinking...you're gonna have a field day with this guy.

2011 Braves: Had 3 chances to win one game against the Phillies (who had nothing to play for), with HFA

2010-11 Bulls: Got curbstomped by Miami in the ECF despite HCA

2011-12 49ers: lost to the Gmen despite HFA

All 3 lost to TtoZ teams, at home no less

    Typical manipulating the facts.

No one is talking all-time. Look at the Royals record. Before 1994, they were one of the most successful franchises in sports history. We're talking about recent history. The Royals and Pirates have been awful the last 15 years or so. Basically after the 1994 strike which divided the big markets from small markets.

    Get your fact straights.

Giants are getting a bunch of talent back off of IR next year. Their tough schedule next year is the only thing that can hold them back, but they had a brutal one this year too and as a result were the most playoff-ready team.

The Phillies still have the best rotation in the game.
