I think that Niner team was better than this Falcon team.
Tim Dwight..Michael Haynes...Deion Sanders...Gerald Tinker.
The Cowboys didn't need him.
Nobody gives a if you reply or not.
As we know over the years tons of sprinters have played on NFL rosters. Few were sprinters "trying" to play football like Ray Norton/Jimmy Hines, but most were two sport stars like a Jacoby Ford.
If we took the 4 fastest guys from an historical perspective to play for these teams.....(got a little creative with those who played on numerous teams)
lane
1.Giants...Richmond Flowers..Butch Woolfolk..Homer Jones..Henry Carr
2.Cowboys...Terrence Newman..Herschel Walker..Alexander Wright..Bob Hayes
3.Niners...Renaldo Nehemiah..James Owens..Deion Sanders...Ray Norton
4.Raiders...Sam Graddy..Alvis Whitted..Jacoby Ford..Ron Brown
5.Bears...Willie Gault..Cecil Turner..Virgil Livers...Curtis Conway
6.Packers...Mike Miller..Travis Williams..James Lofton...Phil Epps
7.Chiefs...Ken Thomas..Joe Delaney..Stone Johnson..Jamaal Charles
8.? who you got?

You sure Julio Jones isn't on that Falcons running squad, brah?
There is a gang of NFLers who obviously had/have great speed but don't have any sprint credentials, no 40 times won't cut it.
In todays game...
Chris Johnson
Desaun Johnson
Mike Wallace
Julio Jones
Devin Hester
All can fly, but did little or nothing as tracksters.
Tim Dwight was a Big10 100 champ while at Iowa.
Michael Haynes was a 10.26 guy while at Northern Arizona.
Gerald Tinker was an Olympic 4x1 gold medalist out of Kent State.
Sanders ran a 10.26 while at FSU.
I have nothing for Julio Jones and I do keep up with that stuff.
Back in his early days he had some serious jets but not 100m jets. Right now he couldn't cook a 100m. Not that ever really could, his thing was 40-60.
There is a world of difference between the 40/60 and the 100m. The key words....speed endurance. World class sprinters don't start running until the 50 or so then it's max velocity for another 20 or so before it's sustain/maintain time. Or speed endurance, how much of their max can they hold.
What about Antwan Randle El?
^That's a very good one.
What about Troy Williamson?
or Chad Jackson if you wanna talk about former New England speedsters
As we know he was a QB while at Indiana, another one of those more quick than fast. He had good straight line speed but I doubt he could break a 10.40 100m. Fast for QB obviously. Well aware of his kick return skills, stil he was no true burner.
None of those mentioned above did anything as tracksters vs NCAA compe ion much less world class.
Sure they all had speed just not the kind of speed I'm talking about.
All those I mentioned in that relay were legit sprinters. All ran track.
I need more details than that, on each of the players in question, if I'm going to consider you an expert on this subject.
I also want an expert opinion on Michael Trabtree!
Harper was a high jumper while at Tennessee. He was not a sprinter. Just another guy with "good" speed.
oh! a phong is ringin!
the late, great Gil Brant!
That's just it none of those guys did anything to be mentioned when talking sprinters in the NFL. Which is the topic.
All NFL receivers and backs are fast. I'm not talking about "fast" I'm talking about...elite speed. Something none of those you mentioned had.
How 'bout Donte Stallworth?
Wind at his back or not, det guys fast!
Good one!
While at Marshall he ran track only one season. He ran an indoor season. There he ran a 21.15 on a flat track. That is a quality time for any NCAAer. Which tells us if he'd been into track he's probably cooking 10.25ish. With that stride of his...sure! I wouldn't rule out a 10.1 something he had that kind of potential.
Matt Jones was a star in football, basketball, and track. Could you give me your expert analysis on him?
Another fast guy out of Tennessee. Just not 100m fast.
I can't talk enought about speed endurance. Footballers don't worry about anything over a 40, they don't run those 300's. Stallworth was not a sprinter at Tennesse and if he snuck by me it's because he did nothing.
