I thought on the surface, the movie was bad ass. Greate graphics, great action, exciting, etc...when you look under the surface, it was utter shit...

Characters were completely forgettable and had no real purpose or story. The story itself felt like it should have been much bigger and much more involved, but every little plot line just ended miserably...nothing was really built up or explained, just a bunch of random, forgettable people. I had a laundry list of things I thought were questionable on the drive home last night, but Ill spare you.

Overall, I liked it...it was entertaining...like a typical smash up shoot up movie...but i expected a much more cerebral experience.

It was so weird how stringer goes from normal captain, to making all these assumptions about the black stuff being their WMDs, and then willingly sacrificing himself with willing crew

Just seemed like the plot got too rushed at some moments while too slow at others.

also I don't think there was any guarantee the planet on the first scene was earth

    SPOILER:

Why did he just randomly kill the male Dr with the alien goo? It didnt really seem to have any point to it...It should tell you something about how forgettable the characters are, that I cant remember any of their names, other than David. At first, when he spiked the drink, I was ready for some underlying plot that David was really working with or for the Aliens or something...but it turns out, I guess he just felt like killing him for giggles.

David was the only one who read what the carvings on the walls said. It's likely hat's what gave him the idea.

This is a really great, salient point. I had no emotional attachment to anyone dying in the crash, including the captain, although I was sorry to see him go considering there might be sequel(s) and he could have gotten a fair shake from a better writer. That's basically how I feel about all the characters, just bad writing even though they acted and felt out the parts well.

The other two guys who sacrificed their lives were just the butt ends of an unintentionally bad movie joke tbh

I didn't understand why David poisoned/infected that 1 scientist & I just don't see how the Predator comes into play with all this, sad thing is the Prequel left a lot more questions then answers.

Yeah I still haven't come up with any half decent reason David infected that guy other than he wanted to know what it felt like to create new life

You don't think he killed him because he knew he impregnated Dr. Shaw? No need for him then. Just my opinion. David wanted that fetus!

Who knew that scientists were so stupid? Save for Vickers (right until the end, where she decided to run straight instead of sideways) and the captain weren't complete retards.
Yeah, I was kinda pissed how they portrayed the geologist. Made us all look bad.

I assumed David infected that dude to see what would happen and to gather further data on the situation.

If I'm a trillionaire who has just made the greatest ultimate discovery in the history of mankind, I would ONLY want my personal puppet robot surviving the entire ordeal. You'd get all the credit, 100000000% of the profit, and can fabricate every detail of the story.

This. It's not that hard to realize that's why he gave him the alien date rape drug. He knew he would bone that girl and make something come out of it. David has no emotions, so he just used his logic for a creative experience. Plus I thought at the end her "baby" octopus was protecting his mama when he killed the engineer. Too bad the whole movie wasn't thought provoking like this side part.

I figured David was just doing what he could to experiment with everything he found to find a way to make Weyland immortal. I assumed he just wanted to see what would happen to Charlie, and if it had positive effects he could build on that.

You guys needed to pay way more attention to David. Did you see him reading and opening doors? Do you remember his comments about parents? Did you catch how everyone told him he had no emotions (a Pinocchio reference by Shaw's BF) when he obviously did?

Fassbender really nailed that role...he is definitely here to stay. Even if it didn't live up to the hype I am definitely looking forward to seeing it again. I'm sure a lot was missed

I definitely think Shaw's BF was a VERY shallow character. I didn't buy how he pouted because they were't alive. It was still an amazing find and he seemed more like a generic fly by the seat of your pants movie scientist (we're not like that at all). He was probably my least favorite character.

I think Scott had to stradle a line here. I think he has ideas that probably deserve more than one movie and I think he's trying to provide enough answers in 2 hours while also providing the action and generic movie shit that will actually get him to a 2nd and maybe a 3rd movie. I think thats why I'm hopeful that there will be a directors cut blu ray with another 30+ minutes. I think there's got to be more to the trio of old man, david, and theron's character. Theres got to be more to the captain and some of the crew. And I HOPE there's more to fill out Shaw's bf but I kinda doubt it.

The more I think about it, the more I think they sacrificed character development in order to show more of the generic scfi/action stuff. Thats just speculation on my part though. I might be giving Scott too much credit after watching the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven but maybe thats his style. (He also had DC of Black Hawk Down and Robin Hood which were longer but I never had the stomach to watch Robin Hood again (hated the premise) and Black Hawk Down was fine as it was IMO).

I would have liked this movie better if it stuck to what it was good at. It worked when it was cribbing the science fiction/horror from Alien. Once they started to engage in navel gazing, I expected some sort of payoff. It's easy to tackle big concepts when you're not pinned down to saying anything with any sort of weight. That's what a hack does.

I agree, but this is what I meant by rushed, I guess.

I felt like some themes were too up in your grill, and some were half a world away

Maybe his intention was to have it that way, but the way the films rhythm went just seemed off to me

I still thought it was worth seeing, but my first impression is lacking

The way he acted only indicated that his programmer/creator had ulterior motives. It was obvious that his main function was not what he had Shaw and company believe it was, which is why he was being such a sneaky fuck in the Alien complex/ship. It became apparent that it was actually to do whatever he could to prolong Weyland's life. My initial thought about poisoning Charlie was just because he was experimenting what effect it had, it's not like he could have know what it did. The "children just want to see their parents die" line was possibly explaining to the audience why the Engineers wanted us dead. They obviously came and visited earth throughout its history and decided that they needed to destroy us, presumably before we destroyed them (children wanting to see their parents die). I'm not sure that he obviously had emotions, as much as he was obviously programmed to hide his main objective, IMO.

I just have a completely different take on this then. I think he wanted Weyland dead. I think the line he said was because of that, but more than that (and this was my favorite part of the movie) when Weyland was dying he said "there is nothing" and David responded with a very cold "I know".

I also am not so sure the Engineers wanted humans dead. We also don't know what David said to the Engineer.

one of the dumbest parts ( and there were several) was when they all got to their destination after waking up from hyper sleep for 2 YEARS and then found out what they were going there for....??????? These dudes, SCIENTISTS, didn't know what they were being put to sleep for 2 years for?? then when they found out some of them were like nah, fuck this. lololololol. Made the whole movie seem fake from the get-go
