If a half black man has a son with his all black wife, its not a stretch to imagine he might look like trayvon. The comment wasn't racist, it was folksy.
not the point. He made it racial by using the words "looked like me"
that was the mistake

not saying the comment was racist. just bringing up the race issue.
what do Trayvon's looks have to do with the case?
Yeah there's one but he's making stupid comments in the NBA section for now.
It's just a comment geez. Stop looking so hard into it.
I'd agree if they were comments from a regular person at a tail party. Not the Commander In Chief on national TV.
He is a regular person. He just has a public government job.
Also, isn't that what people wanted? A more down to earth president?
Agreed.
What else could he of meant?
problem is he based his racial comment on assumptions primarily inflated by the media. Pretty rookie mistake for the person who's supposed to lead this nation
Not the first time...Princeton?
That if he had a son, he would look like a black male
I think if obama has a son it would like clay aiken. But that's bc I'm not a racist, I don't assume that a child born to black parents will automatically be black.
how is that relevant to the case?
Did you even see the speech? There was nothing about race in it. He actually encouraged to limit judgement and let the investigation do its thing. Here's the video.

The "Trayvon son" part was something he said directly to the parents to let them feel that he can relate to them. That is it.
An attempt to have a human connection with the grieving parents/extended family/friends. What a , right?
why make that public then? why does the rest of America need to know that?
You're inferring more of a racial nature to the comments than what was actually said. If that's the comment from the President that was the closest to making it a racial issue, then it's a pretty big stretch to accuse him of making it a racial issue.
Trayvon was a teenager. Underneath the hoodie he looked like a normal kid. That's the message that seems to be the main theme of the comments, especially when read in context.
If it sounds racially motivated to anyone, it's probably because they're hearing what they want to hear. Whether they're black or another run-of-the-mill helpless white slave-to-racial-double-standards.
Ok now you're just nitpicking Che.
Because he was asked to comment. Go write the reporter a letter.
I never took you for a Rush Limbaugh type.
inept troll is my working hypothesis. the che thing is so obviously a pose...
was he asked to comment on the race of the victim, or on the case altogether?
He didn't comment on the race of the victim. He acknowledged that the shooting affected him as a parent.
Here's the transcript:
Well, I'm the head of the executive branch and the attorney general reports to me, so I've got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we're not impairing any investigation that's taking place right now.
But, obviously, this is a tragedy. I can only imagine what these parents are going through. And when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And, you know, I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together -- federal, state and local -- to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.
So I'm glad that not only is the Justice Department looking into it, I understand now that the governor of the state of Florida has formed a task force to investigate what's taking place. I think all of us have to do some soul-searching to figure out how does something like this happen. And that means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened, as well as the specifics of the incident.
But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. And, you know, I think they are right to expect that all of us, as Americans, are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

Where was race mentioned?
Again using the words 'he would look like me' have racial connotations. I don't think I'm alone on that one.
I'm confused as to why the president would contribute to the 'racial' factor in the case.
At best, it was a poor choice of words.
Actually rather normal for this idiot we have as president.
