This guy is everything the Spurs want Bonner to be-- a stretch 4 who is a serious 3 pt threat & a very good rebounder. Some estimates have put his asking price at 8 mil a year, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone offered more. I hope the Spurs explore every option possible to land him, including sign & trades. The Bucks are one team that might actually be interested in a guy like Splitter and if they think they're going to lose Ilyasova anyway, might be interested in a Splitter & Bonner combo plus other parts or future draft picks in exchange for him and a young project big like Larry Sanders or Ekpe Udoh. Outside chance at best, but definitely worth a try.

I can see the Bucks at least listen to such a S&T offer.
and I do like Ilyasova. but would it be a good idea to bring in him and bring back Diaw? and therefore sacrifice Splitter? that's to much of downsizing, especially as we don't know how many minutes Tim can take next season.

Have to agree. Earlier this year he said that he would go wherever paid him the most. Chances are that won't be the Spurs. And the sign and trade offers we could put forth could be easily matched by half the league, unless they were really high on Splitter.

Characterizing Ilyasova as a jump shooting big is inaccurate in my opinion. Compare his shot selection with those of other successful three point shooters:

    Stephen Curry
    Total shot attempts: 296
Shots attempted from 3 pt territory: 121
Shots attempted from 2 pt territory: 175

    Ray Allen
    Total shot attempts: 493
    Shots attempted from 3: 234
    shots attempted from 2: 259

    Matt Bonner
    Total shot attempts: 350
    from 3: 250
    from 2: 100

    Ilyasova
    Total attempts: 597
    from 3: 112
    from 2: 485

If you look at Ilyasova's numbers, you see that about 19% of his shots are from 3 pt range. Bonner is a huge contrast to Ilyasova: about 71% of his shots are threes. Of Ilyasova's 485 attempts from 2 point land, 241 were at the rim where he converted 148 for a 61.4% fg percentage at that range. In terms of attempts, this translates to Ilyasova attacking the rim on 40% of his shots and shooting threes 19% of the time.

Love Ilyasova's game, he'd be a perfect Bonner replacement, but he'll be too expensive and I don't think we can afford to sacrifice Splitter for him. Move on.

Several teams are looking at this kid - including the cash-rich, trigger-happy, Brooklyn Nets. I believe he'll be far out of the Spurs price range.

If Duncan is ready to take a paycut for his new contract, Ilyasova isn't that much of a reach.

The following scenario is CBA compliant:
    - Mills opt out.
    - Spurs don't do a QO to Green but keep their early bird rights on him.
    - Byars is cut.
    - Bonner is amnestied.
    - Blair and Joseph are salary dumped. Cash can even be included if needed.
    - Spurs re-sign Duncan to a $15M/3 years contract.
    - Spurs spend their cap-space on Ilyasova to sign him to a $31.5M/4 years contract.
    - Spurs use their room exception ($5.3M/2 years) on Lorbek.
    - Spurs re-sign Green with the early bird rights.
    - Spurs fill the rest of the roster with min salaries.

At the end Spurs rotation would be:
    Parker/Neal
    Ginobili/Green
    Leonard/Jackson
    Ilyasova/Lorbek
    Duncan/Splitter

Yeah, no Diaw. I don't see him accepting the room exception while Lorbek can. I also rather have Lorbek than Diaw at the backup PF slot.

He could be traded for at least a second round pick.

The second best (and more realistic thing) to his being salary dumped.. Wish it happens quickly. Can't stand him anymore on the Spurs.

Long shot, but not impossible. Plus it makes sense when thinking of a post-Duncan situation. People said it would be impossible to unload Richard Jefferson too, not very long ago...

Wow, that's quite a scenario. I don't know if Tim would roll with $5 million a year, but there's no telling what he would do if it meant upgrading the team and becoming more compe ive.

    great plan. I like.
(some weeks ago I was talking about a - much less elaborated - scenario, where Tim takes 8M per year and that way a significant FA could be signed. this was rated plasphemia.)

Do you really think Ersan gets 8M per year? He made great strides but seems like a lot.
