Which is why he was one of only two freshmen last year to put up the scoring rebounding and ASSIST numbers he did - other being Simmons.

Also, he was a freshman. A very malleable game and has the size to boot.

And maybe the highlight reels had a bias towards scoring and not assists?

He averaged more rebounds than his lottery pick big teammate. He had the 3RE highest floater percentage I believe.. and he works best in the open court, very creative instinctual player. He isn't afraid to shoot, but he's more of an attacker and would probably be the best passer on the team if he played.

This scouting video lists a strength as "Playmaking Potential." The segment on his passing starts at about 4:10.

Of all of our youngest guys the only true passer is Kyle, like Bobo. But Dejonte is probably fine for a 6th man role at least.
His game was compare to Jamal Crawford. He's more of a SG. But he's so young still. Definitely the scoring is more instinctual than the passing.

Last I checked Kyrie isn't exactly known for passing but was the best PG in the postseason.

Needs work. The good thing is that the Spurs are stacked at that coach position.

hes a ty traditional pg. he's a westbrook with a broke ft game. Only in the nba could you be a "pg" averaging 4A/3TO a game shooting 66%FT and 28%3. He's a project.

    Freshman year.

The stocktons and Kidds of the NBA are gone. Accept it.

The only pass first players in the league are bums that can't score like Rondo, Rubio, and fathead. All three of them are cancers.

His method of getting to the rim reminds me of that unbalanced guy with the Grizzlies. The one that blew loving caresses into Lebron's ear.
Forward then fluid shifts laterally. Dangerous stuff... You can't teach that.

If you had to choose between a PG who is a great scorer with average passing skills or a great passer with no scoring instincts, you definitely take the former. The Spurs need a penetrating threat at the PG position. Parker didn't have a jump shot when he first started but his penetration skills made up for a lot of those deficiencies. If he can get to the rim then he has an opportunity to create for others. A jump shot can be coached but scoring instincts can't be coached no matter how hard you try.

non-existent.... that's why you have England in staff.

Exactly. He has unique instincts on getting to the rim like a leftie, like Manu, but without the direct Eurostep. He's more fluidly shifty in his lateral movements and they're more compact.
He has tools that could make him pretty special in a few years, should he work hard enough to do it.

By that, I mean adding a reliable jump shot to the repertoire.
