Sort of--they allude to Godzilla for most of the first half of the movie. They develop the Muto throughout the first half and the 2nd half is about Godzilla hunting the Muto. I don't think you can make a movie without the human element and expect to make a return on your finances. So they had to build that plot element. It is slow at first but the 2nd half of the movie is awesome. Again, don't expect acting like you would in 12 Years a Slave--this isn't that type of movie--check it out for yourself. I hear, though, the 3D is not worth it. But I liked it and enjoyed it... a previews though because they were trying to completely jam the theatre with patrons. I am a Godzilla fan from my youth and the marathons they showed in the 90's during Thanksgiving and NYE were awesome. I was surprised to hear the 19-20year olds saying the movie was good. Since they weren't around when Godzilla was talked about.
    Thanks

Saw it in IMAX and thought it was great tbh, definitely what I expected.

Biggest complaints I've heard so far are:
    a) Lack of Godzilla
    b) ty characters

I agree with b but disagree with a. I thought the characters outside of Cranston were dull and did nothing to add to the film, though some of the non-Godzilla scenes were dope as (halo jump, train scene).

As far as the lack of Godzilla, there's really only so much he can do. He's not Batman, and I can only watch so much of Godzilla destroying a city or fighting another monster. I thought the Godzilla scenes were really well done, even the teaser parts. Plus, the final battle and finishing moves were well worth the lack of Godzilla throughout the movie.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well.

fwiw with the batman comparison, the "real" batman in batman begins didn't show up until way later in the movie too. i think they have this in mind to be a full on series. (i haven't seen it yet but that's what i've gathered from what i've read). hollywood has run out of ideas, so they'll milk any blockbuster as much as they can. gone are the days of one and done summer blockbusters (not talking about B movie sequels).

Thought it was really good. It's got some wooden acting and your usual cliches, but still way better than your typical summer blockbuster movie, and obviously anybody expecting some cinematic masterpiece were re ed for expecting that.

The easy comparison is to Pacific Rim. It wasn't nearly as corny, but also didn't have nearly as much action. In some ways that was a breath of fresh air, especially after Michael Bay & Man Of Steel (and Avengers tbh) and the current "2 straight hours of idiocracy style explosions and destruction" that goes on these days. It made the badass fights stand out since the entire movie wasn't a gigantic fight scene.

Just saw it. My thinking was Cranston would be able to carry a ty script. Little did I know he's only got a bit role in the movie... Godzilla barely has a role in this turd of a movie.

    IMO

If you wanted a monster film, you were disappointed
If you wanted a well rounded summer Hollywood film, you were rewarded

    all these mother ers

I WANTED TO SEE MORE GODZILLA AND AT THE SAME TIME MORE IN-DEPTH CHARACTERS!!!

for 's sake they maxed out Godzilla's screen time perfectly. They can't have him on too long or we'd be bored by halfway through. I agree with the character complaints though. The main guy was too boring and his role in the situation was too convenient but the answer isn't more Cranston, his early death was great imo. Should've been more time for the Jap guy and they didn't have to have all the characters connect. More movies need to go the Contagion route where different characters have different stories

    Characters sucked.

But I didn't go to see a movie named Characters.

Solid B. Well worth seeing at the theater.

Did anyone else see 3D? My glasses were kinda foggy but my GF cleaned them.

But except for the helicopter in the opening scene, I don't remember anything really sticking out. Maybe 3D was a waste

I did. Not a fan of 3D but the IMAX screen/sound was worth it IMO. I'm an IMAX fan but wish the 3D fad would die out tbh.

    Underwhelmed.
Leaden exposition. Flat all 'round. In a word, dull.
On the plus side, Godzilla character design was tight.
The rest was boilerplate corporate blather. Standard Hollywood CGI fest.

I wasn't excited at first to go see this. I got talked into it. Glad I went.

    Best scenes -
The tail KO and the down-the-throat fire.
Worst scene - Why did Walter White have to die so early?

Dose of reality. To throw us off a little. The wife who died even sooner is an oscar winner

Saw it over the weekend and loved it. Paid a bit more for 3D and thought it was excellent. Wooden characters? This isn't a Psych class. Not everyone is going to be perfect on screen. Godzilla wasn't in it enough? Did you need a camera on him sleeping or dropping a deuce behind a mountain or some ?

Mothra is sorry as and I don't feel like watching Godzilla get whooped by the offspring covering him in their again. Rodan is also sorry and Mechagodzilla would just be Pacific Rim.

There's that one ey monster that walks on all fours and then of course King Ghidora who's even cooler than Godzilla. Don't know how they'd bring him in (isn't he from space?) but it would easily be the best. Really the only step forward imo.
