24/7 saying WR Jalen Guyton of Allen will be in Austin on March 1st.

Supposedly comes from a very pro-Texas family.

Is it that suprising? Briles has put Baylor on the map while Mack has been busy moving Texas off of it. A high school kid is only going to look back a couple of seasons when they give an opinion like that.
    Sort of surprising, yes.

When Briles turns Waco into Austin it will not be. Most high school kids want to get out of Waco.

Fair point...Waco is indeed a hole...but it's not like Podunkville, Alabama has a ton of appeal either and Saban has no problem pulling a major haul every year. Atmosphere does help, but it's not that important. If it was then Miami wouldn't be losing guys like Teddy Bridgewater to Louisville.

As close as Austin is to Waco and in the same state... Nowhere else to go in Alabama like Austin. Tradition also plays a role. Columbus, Ohio. I don't see Baylor becoming UT. It's bigger than one coach over time. Strong has a huge advantage getting kids to Austin. It will kick in. Miami is still trying to undo huge damage done by violations and the Thug U image.

I didn't think of this until you said it, but the proximity point actually helps Baylor as well. If they like Baylor as a school but like Austin as a town, it's just a short trip down 35 whenever they want to go hang out down there.

Update on WR DaMarkus Lodge of Cedar Hill and why he won't be attending Texas' Junior Days (24/7):

“It’s not anything to worry about,” said Lodge. “I still like Texas a lot. Honestly I think I would rather go by myself instead of to their junior day. I’d rather catch them another time where it’s not crowded with too many people. That would give me more time with the staff and would allow me to not be rushed when meeting them.”

24/7 reporting Texas' latest offer, TE Devonaire Clarington, and his teammate, 2016 CB Antoine Webster, will be visiting Texas once the school year ends. They'll travel to Austin with their high school coach and spend a few days with the new coaching staff.

UT is very laid back. Especially out of conference fodder games. UT fans at their best against Oklahoma in Dallas.
I would pick my games carefully for Junior day etc... Make sure to put them in the middle of the student sections with the painted faces and large breasted coeds.

RB/ATH Chris Warren III of Rockwall is doing the same.

He should be on campus twice before summer, I think once in March and again for the spring game in April.

Inside Texas reporting, for a lack of a better phrase, the cream is starting to rise to the top when it comes to which players are going to be difference-makers for the team moving forward. No names were mentioned in this specific report, but apparently certain players have already been told they'll need to find a soft landing spot elsewhere before next season. WR Bryant Jackson and LB Aaron Benson were talked about in a separate post a while back as guys who may not make it to spring training.

Speaking of attrition, I was looking at the roster the other day and separated the scholarship players from the walk-ons. If you factor in the 2014 class, I have a count of 93 scholarship players for the fall roster. Those numbers include OL Garrett Greenlea, DS Nate Boyer and K Nick Rose. The latter two both received scholarships last year as walk-ons, but I'm not sure of their status for 2014. Greenlea took a medical redshirt last year and was basically a student assistant. I expect that to continue where he won't count against the numbers, or he'll transfer out for a fresh start since he hasn't contributed since he arrived. There are 24 seniors who will be leaving no matter what (LB Jordan Hicks is 25 depending on a medical redshirt) and about 8 to 12 underclassmen who are attrition candidates. Needless to say the 2015 class will have a lot of room; 25+ if Strong feels he needs it.

Based on his pre-commitment comments, Mack and the family atmosphere seemed really important to him. But I remember he also had a relationship with Mike Davis. I hope we offer his teammate, S Prentice McKinney (http://247sports.com/Player/Prentice-McKinney-28628). He's my favorite uncommitted in-state safety.

I like McKinney as well. I have him as a part of this class in my own personal spreadsheet with recruiting notes and other stuff regarding Texas recruiting. That South Oak Cliff defense is loaded. They have like 3 Div-1 DL in the class of '15 and an entire secondary of future Div-1 players. '16 DE Marvin Terry and '16 CB "Juice" Parker are players to keep an eye on.

Deshon Elliott from Rockwall-Heath has recently overtaken McKinney as my favorite in-state S. Tremendous hitter and a guy I believe that DC Vance Bedford have been in contact with Elliott recently.
