Last year, The San Diego Chargers were among the worst teams in the league in pass coverage with -47.6 overall grade; 3^rd worst in the NFL. Their highest ranked cornerback last year (Johnny Patrick) was listed as the 95^th best in the league.

All that has changed in just a year for The Chargers who now have the 4^th highest pass coverage grade in the NFL. A big reason for the turn around is offseason free agent pick-up Brandon Flowers; who as of now sits comfortably as our top ranked cornerback (+10.1). Flowers looks to be one of the major free agent bargains this year.

I got 8-8 and tried my best to be optimistic. The Chargers are not a great road team. Been a long time since they
have gone 5-3 or better. I don't see that changing.

They do have a very weak secondary. And no stud pass rushers, that is not a good combo.

He has an outside shot at playing Sunday, so probably not that long. Hopefully he rests for two weeks so he can be healthy vs. Broncos.

5. Jason Verrett, CB, SD: +7.7
Playing time was initially his biggest obstacle but he’s overcome that and backed it up with a series of strong performances. Allowing just 44% of balls thrown into his coverage to be complete. Took a wet on Derek Choke and the lolraiders with his first career pick in the clutch.


10. Branden Oliver, RB, SD: +2.8
The Chargers may have found something with Oliver. The undrafted free agent can turn open space into big yards and push the pile enough when required. Really taken advantage of a depleted backfield, but how will he fare as others at his spot return?

not to my eye. he was struggling in the first half and then left the game with injury...

he's the one they went after in play #1, 2, and 5 from those clips, all of which were for good yardage and first downs. in his fairness he did get credited with 2 passes defended, but he was also the beneficiary of a james jones drop on the right sideline.

He and Mosley. CJ may have the nod in the general populace because he's making a ton of splash plays that show up on the stats (sacks, turnovers), but I think Mack's been a great pick for Oakland/SA. Have to start off with one.

Chargers fans, I've been meaning to ask this for a while: What type of offense does SD run? I know they ran an AC back in the Norv days. Is that still the case now?

I know the AC has its problems (the Ravens ran it for six years), but for a team like Tampa, I think it would be good.
