Cuba would be a lot more open to capitalism if we removed the embargo, but the power structure in Washington is still pissed that Castro let Russia put military-grade nuclear weapons into the waters protecting Cuba....could have started WW3 if Kennedy had listened to the Chief of Staff and invaded Cuba...
Repugs especially, jingoistic/war-mongering assholes always needing a external enemy to strut their bogus national security/USA-supremacy cred, are the main block to dropping the Cuba embargo.
