Mark Jackson and Scott Brooks got votes? WTH?
Jackson is a great X's and O's guy.

    Give it to Curry...

Amazed coach Bud didn't get any votes. What he's done with what should have been a bottom-of-lottery Atlanta team is far more impressive than what Kidd, Doc, or even Thibs did this year.

I said earlier in the season Pop would win it, and he could win it every year if it was truly about coaching. This season it defaulted to coaching, since it's hard to give a CotY award to a guy who misses the playoffs, but the Suns were fantastic.

Jackson is a horrible x&O guy, I know you are joking, but a team with that little ball movement and so many iso plays points to a horrible coach. And with the talent that the team has, it's shocking that GSW is only middle of the pack offensively.

props to Pop. much, much deserved with all things considered.
you'd know more than me, but hope he hasn't been sick with something, considering he's been more quiet this season.

Could be, but he is like 54. I remember his clothes and hair always made him look younger.

Pop deserves it. What he did with this team this year was pretty damn impressive.

Well deserved and he joins rare company with Nellie and Pat. I am a little disappointed though. If they had stayed the only 3 timers long enough perhaps the NBA would have taken Auberbach's name off the COY award and swapped out the statue for something more festive.

This won't make SBM or SA210 happy.
But it goes to show they were wrong and I was right about Pop all along.
It kind of makes SA210 look rather foolish with his photoshop thread of Pop

Yes. But you don't get season awards for career achievements. Buford has about the best resume you can get for a GM. But there are other executives who have more impressive flashes.
This is why the EoY award should have a 3-year lag. 2014's voting should be based on an executive's accomplishments from 2011-2014.

Exec of the Year is awarded to the guy who got the shiniest toys that year.

Buford's legacy is the sustained excellence of the Spurs and the number of NBA franchises that have turned over their basketball operations to Buford disciples.

I liked Carlisle's words to Craig Sager as well, ' You're the best, We love ya. Fight your ass off man!'

A class act...and boy, it's hard for me to say nice things about anyone associated with the Ponies!

Funny thing is, I don't think I've hated any of the Mavs coaches the past 10 years or so; it's their owner who I'd like to push in the Riverwalk.

Pop was a deserving winner, but I said this probably about a year ago and it bears repeating: The extensive praise for him, while generally deserved, is really just a backhanded compliment about the Spurs. What they're really saying is, they can't believe how a team that doesn't look all that impressive on paper (to their ignorant, untrained eye) has been a top 3 team for the past 3-4 years, despite the lack of a true superstar in that time. It's to the point now where Pop and his system receive too much credit and the individual talent on the team doesn't receive nearly enough.

Yes, I agree with you strongly. The Spurs win because they are smart and cohesive. But they mostly win because of talent. They're not a super-Bulls like team that is coached up to far exceed their talent level. SA has three HoFers and three others who are top-15 at their positions.
