Phil Jackson off you damn hippie.
Let this argument rage again... are we or are we not a dynasty? PJ says no, obviously.
Phil Jackson is the Knicks’ president now, but he couldn’t help himself from taking a little shot at the San Antonio Spurs, one of his chief rivals when he coached the Lakers.
Jackson was talking about wanting Carmelo Anthony to take less money in free agency in order for the Knicks to have more flexibility. He cited Tim Duncan, who has done it in San Antonio to help keep the Spurs together and contending.
But right after Jackson praised the Spurs, he retracted his statement and gave them a little zing.
“Tim Duncan making the salary he's making after being part of a dynasty - not a dynasty, I wouldn't call San Antonio a dynasty -- a force, a great force,” Jackson said. “They haven't been able to win consecutive championships but they've always been there. San Antonio has had a wonderful run through Tim's tenure there as a player. He's agreed to take a salary cut so other players can play with him so they can be this good. And that's the beginning of team play.”
Jackson guided the Lakers to five les - a three-peat and one back-to-back – in 11 seasons as coach. They beat the Spurs four times in the playoffs under Jackson and were beaten once by San Antonio.
The Spurs have won four les since 1999, almost won their fifth last season and had the best record in the NBA this season.

Phil Jackson off you damn hippie.
he's got a great point. But even an unbiased person like me sees the dynasty. Most winning franchise in the past 20 years, 4 times champions, most winning coach, 2nd most winning big 3 in history. There are no if ands or buts. It's a dynasty.
I see no big problem with what he said. BUT uttering Carmelo in the same sentence as Duncan now.... v
& I wouldn't call Phil a great coach.
Pippen, Jordan, Rodman, Grant, Kobe, Shaq, Malone, GP. Del Negro could win a le with that.
What's that saying about imitation and flattery?
4 les in the Duncan era is a dynasty,,,,saying we didn't defend a le so we arent is just semantics.
Whether he's wrong or right, there's a condescending smugness from Phil that makes me hate him. Even back in his Bulls days, when there was no rivalry with the Spurs, and therefore I had no reason to hate him, I still hated him. Hope he crashes and burns with the Knicks.
That said, he is a of a coach though.
Phil don't give a if he crashes and burns in New York, as he's getting paid huge money in a last NBA job either way.
As there is not a universally accepted definition of a dynasty in sports, his opinion is just as self serving as Spurs fans.
Even though Phil likes to troll Pop and the Spurs, he still respects the out of them. It's obvious.
Phillip's just salty his last coaching gig ended in a 2nd round sweep tbh. Even with Kobe, Bynum, and Gasol he got broomed by a team with one All-Star.
Na he's always taken jabs at the Spurs though. Just part of the rivalry. He also picked us to beat Miami last year though.
lol he said dynasty first then corrected himself. Just Phil trolling, nothing to see here
Phil aside since he's taking pot shots, I would say SA was a dynasty from 03-'07. After that no.
people here last year were kissing his ass after he complimented the Spurs
3 les in 5 years is a dynasty.
it's hard to hate phil, he's such a smug jackass. he's earned it, the prick.
In what sport is 3 les in 5-6 years not a dynasty? ...
As successful as he has been and despite the championships Phil has brought to their organizations, it is interesting to note how much both Jerry Krause and Jerry Reinsdorf and then the Buss family members not named Jeanie, all seemed to hate him.
Phil lashes out passively aggressively when feeling threatened tbh.
Bull . First of all they should have won 5 straight les 03-07. Even still, they were the most dominant team for most of the last decade and refused to die in the current decade. So yes it's a dynasty, you, period.
Yeah, he really burned 'em with that one. Wicked . . .
that literally means nothing. there's getting it done, and there's not getting it done
Must be a silent zing. That or people don't know how to take compliments.
