I keep seeing this scenario where Johnny Footall is considered a big mistake/a joke, then down goes Hoyer. Then years later when Johnny is a big star, the story is told over and over again not unlike Bledsoe/Brady.
1. Johnny update: Coach Mike Pettine told me before training camp started that coaches would evaluate Johnny Manziel through the first four days and decide whether he earned first-team reps. The numbers tabulated each day by ESPNCleveland’s Jason Gibbs have not been pretty. Gibbs has charted all plays in 7 on 7 and team drills. Unofficially, Manziel has completed 42 of 85 passes (49.4 percent). He has been “sacked” two times officially. Two other obvious sacks were waved off and resulted in Manziel interceptions. There has been one other interception, four keeper runs by Manziel and three plays aborted by general confusion. Manziel’s only touchdown pass came on a little flip to fullback Ray Agnew off a bootleg. It’s too early to draw conclusions. But it’s nearly impossible to make the case that Manziel has earned first-team reps.
and yet Pettine just announced that he'll be getting first team reps soon. must be manziel's swag

So they are going to run Johnny packages a la Tebow? And when has that worked in the NFL? Please do this.
i hate the idea of having a package for the backup, unless maybe its specifically a goal line thing like with Tebow... but otherwise i hate taking the starter out for a few snaps
Agreed. It interrupts rhythm, which is especially important in the NFL. Pick one or the other and call it a day.
It's called laying the groundwork for when Football inevitably takes over the starting spot. Obviously he has a broader skillet than Hoyer and these packages will take advantage of that.
Why does this even need to be explained? smh
is tebow his PR manager?
The teams that win have an established QB, a leader. Thw ones who don't have what Cleveland has, a mess at the QB position.
The team has no leader and really don't know who will end up leading them? So to see them 1-5 after 6 weeks is a very real possibility. They will be the underdogs in all of them.
What needs to happen is some big lineman smacks Johnny upside his head and tells him to cool his crap. This is a business now so act like a businessman not some punk college kid.
BEREA, Ohio — Johnny Manziel has quickly learned his college days — on the field anyway — are over. Less than a week into his first NFL training camp with the Browns, Manziel is going through the typical growing pains of any rookie quarterback. He’s doing all he can in the classroom to grasp Cleveland’s offense, but the former Heisman Trophy winner is finding that once he’s behind center, everything is moving faster than expected. He’s making mental and physical mistakes. The throws that came so easy for him at Texas A&M aren’t there. He’s not scrambling around and making defenders look silly. Not yet. Johnny Football isn’t dominating.
“I’m a rookie,” he said. “I don’t have all that stuff figured out.”

He has a broader skillet than Hoyer? Well, at least he can fry up some mean chicken for his teammates while warming the bench
We talkin' about practice, NOT A GAME, NOT A GAME, NOT A GAME. We talkin' about practice....
Report: Johnny Manziel spotted at bar after Tuesday's practice
Manziel was spotted Tuesday night at Two Bucks (it's a bar!), which is less than two miles from the team's facility in Berea, Ohio, according to the Akron Beacon-Journal's Nate Ulrich.

Football took all the first team reps Monday.
ruh roh
they said it was planned from the start of camp tbh
Preseason Game 1
Hoyer: 6/14 for 92 yds (one drop)
Football: 7/11 for 63 yds (two drops) + 6 carries for 27 yds

Now add....
Hoyer with first offensive line
JF with the second team
Both were pretty solid, tbh. Hoyer led them to 2 scoring drives to Manziel's one. Although, one of Manziel's solid drives ended with a fumble in scoring range. Next week will be a good test for JFF playing with the starters.
Compe ion was probably different too.
