It came out to more than that with the water blocks tbh
son I can rig up something for the cheap. I can install a hose running from your sink into your computer and it will power a mini sprinkler inside your case. your computer stays cool forever and you save some money in the process.

The 7950 is a great deal for the money too right now, it's a beast mode GPU and it's only about $90.
Here is one brand new for $130.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161400

    Didn't realize 7950 was the same as the R9 280. I thought it was the R9 270x.

It's a great time to be a PC gamer. You can throw together a ridiculous rig for about $500 now.

The price war Nvidia started with the 970's release at $330 has made this the year to upgrade your video card for sure. I only wanted to spend a couple hundred bucks on a card, but the 970 was just too impressive to pass up at $330. Of course, like a week after I bought the 970 the R9 290's dropped to $250-$260 for the best aftermarket versions like the Tri-X and Vapor-X.

I just wonder what's in store with the GTX 960. I would think they'll put out a piece of crap there that they can get a lot of profit off ignorant Nvidia fanboys while leaving a huge performance gap so that PC Master Race will still buy the 970 like crazy. I mean the piece of GTX 750 Ti still sells like crazy because of the brand name, so I figure they'll make huge money off a lame 960.

I'm sitting on crossfired 6950s, so I don't even think I'll be upgrading since they're roughly equal to a 280. I hope AMD continues to kick ass, because we need them in the game.

It's mind-boggling that AMD can't get above about a 40% market share no matter what they do. Right now you have to be a moron to buy any Nvidia card below the GTX 970. The 290 is better than the 780, the 280x is better than the 770, the 280 is better than the 760, and the 270/270x s all over the worthless 750 Ti.

It has always been the same with AMD though. Back in the NetBurst era the Intel Pentiums were complete dog compared to the AMD Athlons and even worse they cost way more too. And yet AMD still only got up to 20% market share for desktop CPUs. These s need to start advertising like Intel does, though maybe they should keep quiet about their FX series and stick to talking about how awesome their GPUs are.

I can't wait to see what 380x and 390x have in store. Not that I'll be buying another video card for 3 years or so I'd guess though.

I'd say closer to $600 or you're making some major sacrifices.

I realize the psu is overkill by about 200W, but it's the same price as a nice 550W-650W PSU

That's right now. If you putt around for deals, you can get stuff on sale and drop that price down.

To get down to $500 you're going to need to drop to an i3 and a GTX 760 (i3's are getting killed with AMD GPUs right now that work great with i5's).

I wonder how many jackasses will instead get an Alienware Alpha for 600 after taxes.. I was looking at the specs, and that is garbage. It's on par with an Xbox One for 250.00 more.

Sure right now. But when I built my black friday rig two years ago, I got $40 off the proc, $80 off the PSU, $100 off the GPU, $25 off the RAM, etc.

Obviously those are black friday sales, but the point is good sales for PC hardware are really frequent. The only thing that doesn't seem to get discounted much is processors. But GPUs, ram, etc all drop here and there.

There was a fire sale on amd gpus this summer on craigslist after litecoin mining became unprofitable. Saw some 290x's for $200-250 if you get a used gigabyte or msi the warranty transfers over. Sapphires are pieces of at least for mining, I had to send in everyone I had.

And then the new R9 290/290x went way down in October. The GTX 970 at $330 really ed AMD over bad. I feel for anyone who spent $700 on a 290 a few months ago. All that mining ensured gamers couldn't get those cards and a golden opportunity for AMD to get some more allegiance to their brand went up in smoke.
