If I had to pick my 5 favorites:
1. Zaxxon
2. Double Dragon
3. Galaga
4. Mortal Kombat II
5. Ms Pacman
Growing up I don't think there was a better place to pass time than at the local arcade. We have a chain here in SA (not sure if it's nation wide) called Diversions, and I use to love when my Dad needed a piece of ass because that meant I was getting dropped off there with 20 bucks for at least a few hours.
To me the golden age of the arcade was from about 1994-2000. I could remember the feeling of walking into an arcade, the was loud as , and you instantly picking up the sounds from Mortal Kombat; Shao Kahn announcing and the screams of someone getting an uppercut, or to finish someone, Killer Instinct's announcer yelling out 'Ultraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Combooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo", and NBA Jam letting you know someone is heating up or on fire.
You go to an arcade these days, and they are ing Android/iOS games built into an arcade cabinet
Anyways, what are your favorites? Here are a few of mine:

X-Men - 6 players
OF course - SFII Road Warrior/Hyper Fighting/Turbo
Soul Calibur, House of the Dead 2 and NFL Blitz were the too.
Lot's of good up there, I could have named all of them as well but then I would have killed my own thread
Double Dragon - Used to love being a bag and coming in, getting the other player all pumped up that he was gonna have some help, and then proceed in throwing his ass into a pit
Street Fighter II - This is one I would have to disagree with just because every god damn arcade in the US pumped the difficulty so ing high I couldn't beat more than 2 fighters.
X-Men - This was the also, especially when the arcade of choice wasn't poor and purchase the multi-screened 6 player version
This reminds we of a couple more that took a load of my parents hard earned quarters:
Pit Fighter - Getting stabbed by spectating drunks in shady bars? Great times, Ty was the
Simpsons Arcade - Multiplayer fun, and the stupid in between level contests (inflating balloons) were the
WWF Wrestlefest - ing Hogan you sucker, stop asking me to insert more coins to regain power..
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV - Turtles in Time - Expanded upon the original with better levels, bosses, etc..Included the bosses from the Secret of the Ooze movie also
Also - Anyone else used to enter your initials as "creatively" as possible?
"Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa" - that's another one you'd hear as soon as you walked into an arcade..

Rampage somehow never got old.
My .
Double Dragon
Operation Wolf
Super Hang On
The John Elway's Quarterback with the dinky second joystick was hilarious:
I can remember internet being this thing of legend, and 0.001% of people having it. You'd get that one bag at the arcade with a movelist for MK2, and these fools would act like they had the cure for AIDS in their hands when it came to asking to see it.
wwe wrestlefest, never manage how to fkn tag or fkn pin....
Street Fighter II - loved being a 9, 10 year old kid when that game came out and beating the of people way older than me
Mortal Kombat - I remember buying game magazines at Drug Emporium (anyone from SA remember this store) and writing down the fatalities down on paper and taking it to the bowing alley and wasting money trying to perform them when the place was empty and the machine was mine.
Samurai Showdown - quirky as but still liked it
Marvel vs Capcom - 100 hit combos? Sure, why not.
NBA Jam - fun as but must had been the loudest machine in the arcades
Simpsons Arcade - nuff said
Oh I also really liked King of the Monsters and all those SNK machines with the five games that had a selector.
forgot about those. Metal Slugs 1, 2, and 3 were almost always in those.
knights of valor 4player arcade game, was in fkn chinese didnt understand a
This guy here could not be ed with on Street Fighter (it doesn't matter which one). Give me Ryu.....game over.
Mortal Kombat....give me sub-zero or scorpion....game over.
Shout out to the guy with the "Simpsons" mention.....definitely lost a few quarters in that game.
You could always cheat with Blanka if got too real. But Bison was my .
damn forgot about Gunsmoke
No love for Smash TV? Possibly the greatest.
I bought Smash TV for Super NES and didn't know it was even an arcade game. Saw it sometime later. Awesome game. Love the twin joystick stuff (no ). Robotron was awesome but Smash TV took it to the next level.
I hated the mother ers who used Guile in Street Fighter II. They would crouch, charge and repeatedly Sonic Boom you. You would jump to get them, and they would Flash Kick you out of the air. His throw moves always seem to take priority over others outside of Zangief. I liked beating people with Chun-Li.
