Well you aren't an NBA GM or owner so it really doesn't matter what you or any of us think is worth a max deal. The reality is he will be making the max next season (unless he has an awful season or gets hurt) the only question is who will be paying him.
And the Spurs do not have to be the team that pays him that Max deal. Five years from now we may be sitting here saying thank God we didn't give it to him.

If he was a FA last off-season he would already be a max player. Klay Thompson just got paid the max, the market has been set, Kawhi will be getting the max. Might as well get your head around it now.

Not so fast skippy as it all depends on how he does this season. Better get YOUR head wrapped around THAT now.

Absolutely true, and there's no bigger Leonard fan than me.

Maybe, maybe not. Comparing him to Duncan, Robinson, Pippen or Jordan mean nothing. The market is set for him, the Spurs will either pay or someone else win.

Whatever makes you feel better, the yahoo article has cited several GMs saying he's worth the max already and he's a better player than Klay Thompson who just signed for a 4 year max deal. The market is set you can ignore it if you want. Only way he doesn't get max is if he suffers an awful injury or plays poorly this season. You may not think he's worth it but your opinion doesn't matter to other GMs and team owners.

he had one Max worthy series.

Every other time he has been a roleplayer at best.

    Worst time to negotiate contracts.

No one knows the details surrounding the Kawhi negotiations. It's all just generic internet rumors. I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs asked him to wait so that they could maximize flexibility to surround him with other free agents next summer after Duncan and Manu possibly retire.

It is all talk until the check gets signed.

    Gamesmanship plays a role here.

If Leonard flops this season he can forget a max contract from anyone.

Exactly. He can go elsewhere and be a nobody, always wishing he had stayed.

He had an outstanding series against Portland...
He defended Durant and Westbrook so well, he carried the team for three quarters in game 6 WCF, sure he missed a lot of bunnies in the fourth quarter but his strip/steal on Russ closed the series...
A 22 years old guy who played great on both ends in two consecutive NBA finals...
