Bob Seger ing rules
"Turn the Page" is a super emo song to begin with (boo-hoo success makes me travel to get millions), but Metallica's endless whining makes their version worse. The sax on Seger's version is iconic and it's one of his few songs that doesn't wax nostalgic about teen pussy.
this. imo, todays music aint got that same soul
This is up there.
i've always found that one to be pretty tolerable tbh
Oh, and this. Just awful.
?
At least he tried a different approach without being Marilyn Manson stupid.
that's actually one of my favorite covers.
and disagree with ohmwrecker about RHCP's Higher Ground, not saying it's better than the original, but a badass version in its own right. 18 year old Frusciante tearing that up.
I know it's not a cover but I want to strangle Kid Rock to death everytime his song comes on and I think it's Warren Zevon werewolves of london but it's really just his rip-off of Zevon and lynryd skynryd
I have always hated this one
I like that one quite a bit, but I really don't care for Tina Turner's Proud Mary
Really horrible remake of Run-DMC's Sucker MCs
My favorite remake outside of Cash and Hendrix
Way better than the original
Meh. I might be biased because I hate the RHCP, but I think they drain all the funk, soul and groove out of that song. I don't dig the shouty vocals either. It just doesn't come close to being as good as the original.
Kill me now...
Some good ones listed, but the ultra emo cover of Into The Black from Sons of Anarchy is the worst I think I've heard.
Basically, if you're emo pop, don't cover Neil Young.
Local H attempts to turn ty pop songs into anthem rock songs. Not for everyone, but they are infinitely better than originals:
They have others...
They covered Little Feat's A Apolitical Blues. AFAIK, it's their only cover with Sammy. It was the CD bonus track for OU812.
I like the foo fighters version of "baker street" though I will acquiesce that the sax in the original is awesome.
As far as Metallica's turn the page, I can see both sides, but I wouldn't say that Seger is pussified, but I think that it's a part of the production process in newer songs. They sound fuller.
It's not lamenting the life of a singer. It's explaining that it's not all glory. I suppose "Hurt" is emo as well, boo hoo Cash crying over a lifetime of drugs, pussy and fame.. so tragic.
Pretty much.
I didn't say they are bad songs.
That's a good example of how a singer changes the interpretation of a song. When Reznor sings hurt he comes off as an emo, whiny, rich rock star, when Cash sings it, you hear a man on his deathbed, full of regret and penance. It's incredibly powerful and moving.
