Well, Boston's offense has been better when he's off the floor the past 2 seasons, so ya, that says a lot..
He hasn't been nearly the same player, particularly defensively, since 2012..
Haven't watched Rondo play since pierce/kg were there. Do his assists mean anything?

That's exactly what made the Mavs a tough out for us, while we coasted against Portland (when starters weren't in) and the Heat last year, and Memphis the year before. Any player on the floor could kill you on the Mavs, while other teams trotted out non-factors offensively.
Most people forget that players who can't shoot but find other ways to score early in their careers (not that Rondo was even good at that) tend to deteriorate more quickly than guys who have always been good shooters or develop a shot (e.g., J-Kidd). At this point, Rondo is not a significant upgrade over what Dallas trots out there and will only get worse as time passes.
Dallas trading spare change for Rondo. Amazing. Why are the Celtics just giving him away. Seems like they could get a better deal than the Mavs late first rounder and a couple of guys that won't be on the Celtic roster beyond this season.
Mavs gave away expiring contracts & a late round pick. Steal imo.

no. Rondo's not the player he used to be and this trade takes an offensive threat off the floor for Mavs. I'd rather he jack up 3's against us than Devin Harris.

It's a Rick Carlisle/Danny Ainge deal. Carlisle has some dirt on Ainge from their playing days with the Celtics.

I was under the impression that Rondo sucked now. Wright is their only back-up big as well; I don't know about this move for Dallas. Their offense is already the best in the league; adding Rondo can't possibly improve it to the point where they don't need a back-up big. Rondo's probably (I haven't been paying attention to him lately) a better defender than Jameer though, so maybe this helps their perimeter D.

Rondo isn't a good player anymore, but he's obviously much better than Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton, and they didn't have to give anything up..
I think it's a good trade for the Mavs, they didn't give up anything of value, but Rondo isn't anything special anymore..it's a low risk/decent reward move for a team that is arguably the worst in the NBA at the PG position..

This pickup was not really for the offensive aspect. There are 3 glaring flaws with Dallas, all of which are strengths of Rondo.
1) defense
2) long defensive rebounds
3) proper ball distribution
Not worried tbh
