What's worse, mediocre in a sport the US actually (now) cares about.
The inability of the US to produce even one world class soccer star in all these years of playing the sport is utterly astounding.
It's only going to get worse, tbh. The MLS is starting to bring in washed up stars from Europe + Mexico fan favorites.. Taking up spots that can go to other young americucks looking to grow.
Not really. By the time a player is ready for the MSL, it's too late anyway.
You can't "develop" soccer stars. By the time they're 15 they either have it or they don't.
I'm not sure of the football academies here in the U.S. but let me take a wild guess in saying they're nowhere near the levels of their European counterparts. Gotta develop those skills at a super young age. Soccer isn't like basketball where if you're 7ft tall, you can start playing in high school and become an NBA player.

A story I watched on Womens Soccer, the girls are told in High School they need to stick with 1 sport. The age I've noticed most future Stars get special treatment is By the age of 8.
