He has been having one of the most ignominious career-end an all time great could have..That this dude was last relevant in league at age 32--the Sweep in May 2011 vs the Mavericks was the beginning of this terminal tailspin-- is absolutely unbelievable just when it looked a year earlier that he will be equaling or even surpassing MJ in ring..

Since then he has fit every pathetic category there is for bottom-dwelling NBA player: TOSB, coach-killer, financial albatross, team cancer, radioactive free-agency tool.etc..Nothing really redeeming about him in the last half decade..

Will he end his career on this historically humiliating note, missing 3rd straight playoffs in a cluster of Laker team? will he reup in 2016-2017? bolt to a contender next season and coattail to 6th in role player mode?

    Your thoughts, tbh

He has, tbh...it is really the only face-saving move...just protect what's left of his completely altered and crumbling legacy..He is just not made to be a"role player" even if he tried...

Retirement, enjoying the millions I handed him for two years of nothing. He would make a good businessman unlike Timothy.

Kobe has a cult like following globally. He's one of those few athletes that will continue to generate millions after retirement. I can also see this starring in a few hit movies tbh.

He really should go play in Europe for a couple years. Maybe Italy where he grew up.

He could literally show up right before game time, jack up about 30 shots, play zero defense, receive all the love and adulation that his ego requires from those fanboy foreigners, and then leave whenever he wanted to.. And they would pay him a King's ransom for it. Plus, he'd get to enjoy all the things Europe has to offer for a while.

I really don't see any negative to that scenario tbh, other than fans making fun of him for leaving for Europe because he couldn't play in the NBA anymore. He's got the rest of his life to be old and boring, might as well make some more money and hoop while he still can tbh.

That's actually a really smart idea. And it wouldn't torpedo his reputation like putting up 1 for 75 performances are doing over here.

He has a huge following in China. He can always go to China and challenge Marbury's reign as the best player in Chinese Basketball.

This. When people say these last three years are going to hurt Kobe's legacy, they're in denial. As soon as he retires, the nostalgie will return and media will easily be able to chalk these last few seasons to injury.

But I think he will retire. I don't think he'll shut it down this year. I think he'll announce that he's going to call it quits at the end of the season and do a farewell tour ala Jeter. Maybe go down to 20 minutes a game as well.
