I gotta admit, AMD's R5 1600 looks like it's the best gaming cpu for ~$220. Those two extra cores really help it out with minimums in games now, and I would definitely buy a Ryzen 5 system over an i5 based system. They're still not i7 when it comes to gaming, but if you don't want to spend $300+ on a cpu Ryzen 5 looks like the way to go. As of right now it really looks like there are only four cpus that make much sense for gaming:

    1. Budget - Pentium G4560 for $60
    2. Midrange - Ryzen R5 1600 for $220
    3. High-end - i7-7700 for $315
    4. Enthusiast - i7-7700k for $350

only reason why u go r7 is future proof that those extra cores will come handy in 5-6yrs when everyone starts utilizing more then 4 cores as mainstream

currently now they don't even fully used up 4cores for a single program.....u only stress out 4cores+ is if u got other programs running simultaneously in back...

when market wont move forward to optimize more then 4 cores, then ur better off buying a 4-6 core cpu....whatever save$$$ invest in better monitor cause that's rarely upgrade and will last you a good 10yrs+, or vga/ram/hdd

    ps.
I forgot to mention t he r5+r7 doesn't have a APU...so if u buying this u better set aside money to buy a vga

only the new r3 looks like will have APU raven ridge...(lol if that dedicated apu has fsync2? that be winwin situation for clowns on a tight budget entry level)

seems like r7 cpus are dropping in prices if u check around fellas...

I'd say the High-end is still the 1600x if you need it for multi-threaded applications like streaming. Those extra threads are amazing and I've talked to people who say it's incredible for multi-tasking even while gaming.

I'm building a mini-itx Ryzen computer as we speak... need a mobo for it though as there aren't any out yet. Depending on the performance of the 5xx line from AMD I might go that route or just drop a 1080 in it.

I'm not 13 though so IDGAF about streaming. It sounds crazy to say, but the 1080 is actually pretty good value these days. I'd spend $500 on a 1080 before I'd spend $400 on a 1070. When the good 1080s were $700 and the good 1070s were $450 the 1070 made a lot of sense, but now I think it's pretty poor value when the 1080 is so much better.

Yeah, the 1080 is where it's at and prices are still falling. I've seen the 1070 for $330 on slickdeals, though. Tough not to pull the trigger on that.

lol, I didn't just mean streaming, that was just an example. Rendering or any kind of intensive threading work is all going to benefit a lot from the 1600x. It also looks like it might have more future proofing than the i5 chips too.

1080tis are dropping in prices now...... I'm not spending that much on a vga again cause that part will always be replaceable and upgrade...

going to invest in a +34inch 1440 or 1600 screen, cause that will last me a good 10yrs out of it... hopefully i pick up some used 980ti for under 100bucks secondhand

    new g.skill ram out http://www.tomshardware.com/news/gsk...its,34155.html

speaking of ram/memory, when would hbm2 overtake ddr4/5 as main component? instead of just appearing on vga cards... should be targeted and as a option for those who can afford it instead of ddr4

so vega is to compete with 1080-1080ti

BUT when its released, NVidia is also releasing volta cards....lmao amd marketing dept.. = bunch of fkn clowns again

I wonder whats the price on volta cards...will it slot in between the price range of 1080ti - anx? or somewhere above anx?

Meh we have no idea what Vega is going to be like, and AMD has roadmapped two versions (Vega 10 and Vega 11). Also that story about Volta in 2H 2017 isn't a very solid source AFAIK. Still the gpu market does look pretty grim for AMD considering they will have ceded the $350+ market entirely to Nvidia for a year by the time Computex comes around next month and since Vega is going to be crazy expensive because of HBM2. I imagine Vega is going to be the same kind of failure Fiji was because of expensive ass HBM1.

I really hope we do see Volta this year though. The GTX 1070 is very overpriced right now after the 1080 dropped to $500. I'm hoping we see something like 1070 level performance in the $250 price bracket with GV106 (eg GeForce 60 series), though I'd guess they'd only release their GV104 (eg GeForce 70 & 80 series) and V100 (eg Tesla) in their first round of Volta.

was refering to vega11, vega 10 is weakass ddr5 crap...

how much ddr5 is needed to be equivalent to 2gb hbm2? or 4gb...

if NVidia drops its prices where it covers the costs of +200 premium for NVidia vga + monitor, then it be a no brainer to purchase NVidia...I don't feel like s ing +100 for gsync screen over fsync monitor...

I almost pulled the trigger on a 980ti yesterday for $260.

Vega could easily launch with two cards to compete with the 1070 and 1080. We'll see.

AMD is ok for now, the 570/580 are the best budget cards on the market and easily support 1080p 60fps, which is what the mass majority of gamers are buying for right now. That should hold them over until Vega launches, and Ryzen is selling like crazy right now.

Good you didn't. That card is already two years old and Nvidia doesn't have a great track record with their cards' performance longterm (for instance the GTX 970 has fallen behind the RX 570 now). Plus Maxwell isn't great for DX12.

That's exactly why I stayed away. It would have been tougher if mITX mobos were out for Ryzen, but they aren't, so I have some time.

Definitely going either 10xx or Vega.
