He passes DRob on the court but not in terms of Great Spurs. If that makes sense.
David is a top 30 all time, I do not see it happening.

Yeah...I thought about it after my first post. He could carry a team. Leonard hasn't shown that. If you exchange the 2 and put Leonard on those older teams, they don't get a ring. If you replace Leonard with DRob these last few years, you probably have at least one more ring. Maybe 2. I realize that's pretty simplistic.

In the all time Great Spur as the second best spur of all time..

Winning a ring in the Durant-Curry-Thompsom-Draymond and Lebron-Kyrie-Love era ...

With majority of his supporting cast being past their prime or way too young.
He still has not surpassed Tony, or Manu, for sure he won´t surpass Robinson.

Threads like this by op killed Kawhi last two seasons, with Kawhi leding us to two first round exits! op never learn that he's the most jinx here...
Tim Duncan was the leader of that team for the past 19 seasons. Not Manu. Not Parker. Not Kawhi. The Spurs were Duncan's team. These next few seasons are going to be important for the Spurs are far as leadership goes. Someone will have to emerge as the leader of the team.

And NO, do not read into that as me saying Duncan is why they lost in the playoffs.

    No.

First, I don't think he leads the Spurs to a le this year. And maybe they take a few steps back from last year. Pau is new. Tim is gone, and the bench is as inexperienced as ever. I think it's a down year. I think they win 50 games and lose in the 2nd round to a team they would've beat this year.

Second, this team, while a downgrade, is a better roster than anything Robinson had pre Duncan.

Third, different era. If Robinson played in this era at 26, he'd probably win 3 les in this league with no bigs. I don't think Kawhi would lead a team to the final in Robinson 's era.

Robinson means more on and off the court. He kept the Spurs relevant at a time when there was talk of them relocating. Plus, in a military city, he actually served two years, which is unheard of now. And give him those two years in his youth and Duncan may not own all the Spur records.

I like Kawhi, but he's far behind Robinson.
    great points.
People are starting to forget how great David was.
how many guys have led the league in scoring and have also won a DPOTY?
    David and Jordan?
David was the first modern day player he used to crush the old IBM metrics ...

Look we all saw Hakeem dismantle him and no he did not win until Tim arrived ...
But if Kiwi (i love him outside of durant/VCurry/Lebron he is my favorite non Laker) had to lead a team with no other HOF players or all-stars I doubt he could do as much damage as David. And i think Kiwi might be th best all around wing defender I have ever seen. And you still take David. He was like a taller Kiwi with chiseled physique ran like a deer and could defend the pnr and protect the rim.

Outside of on the block and maybe as a passer. Robinson actually was better at a lot of basketball related things than Duncan tbh. He was almost Lebron without the vision.

Think it takes 2 more les and maybe fmps.

And to everyone that thinks the Spurs are out le

contention now that TD is retired, wrong.

The Spurs are still very much le contenders.

In terms of Spurs lore, if kawhi could get MVP, DPOY, and FMVP while dominating GSW, then CLE, id crown him 2nd best Spur of all time... i think thats honestly fair.

I honestly don't think the Spurs get past the Warriors unless LMA and Gasol ball out. Kawhi and Green will have their hands full holding off the Warriors perimeter players to give their team a chance. Then you'd have Parker, Manu and Anderson hopefully doing some scoring with Mills and the other bench guys filling in the cracks. It would be a true team victory, and only playerfans would be able to give it to any one player.

Of course, if the series with Cleveland ended up being Kawhi owning Lebron, then I can understand some narratives shifting.
Good response. I think it's a mischaracterization to say Kawhi has a too old or too young team. He has LMA, Danny and Mills in their primes. Plus the roster has a nice blend of skilled teammates, versatility and flexibility, from shooters, to energy athletes, to passers/playmakers, to bigs. From the look of things (since that was long b4 my time) David never had a supporting cast quite like this. I agree that to reach the top, it will take a total team effort.

    Absolutely.

"When you're gonna shoot shoot, don't talk."

"That even for a tramp like me, there's a brother somewhere who won't refuse him a bowl of soup," (Might be slightly off on that one).
