So this is pretty cool. It's got a good story behind it but the performance stands on its own.

Of the thousands of covers, I can't think of any where the cover is so dramatically better than the original than that one above.

Close would Elvis covering...Are You Lonesome Tonight.

OK...so to be fair...I just saw a short interview with her and her autism seems very mild. Still a great performance.

    Talking covers.

One of Hank Williams biggest hits was "Lovesick Blues'. That was a cover of a 1927 Emmitt Miller (performed in black face) tune.

The first song Elvis ever recorded was "That's Alright Mama", that was a cover of 1940's bluesman Big Boy Crudup. "Hound Dog" a Big Mama Thornton tune.

The Stones, Led Zeppelin covered a number of old blues tunes.

The music of Robert Johnson a 1930's blues legend has been covered by too many to mention.

    Dale Hawkins recorded the original.

I was joking around at first but for great covers, I think that some top 10's were mentioned.
    Joe er : The Letter
Hendrix : All Along the Watchtower
    Buckley : Hallelujah

I think Bene's submission of Dream On was cool.
I think the cover of Slaves and Bulldozers was impressive.
And I think the chick above has super cool guitar chops even though her voice is pretty generic.

And I think the kids cover of hallelujah was awesome.

Those six covers above, the original artist.

    1.Blind Willie Reynolds
    2.Blind Willie Mctell
    3.Big Mama Thornton
    4.Sonny Boy Williamson....a true classic
5.Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe McCoy
    6.Roy Acuff

Big Joe Willams first recorded "Crawling Kingsnake" then here came Tony Hollins, some years later John Lee Hooker, then there was.................

Some of the most covered of all songs.

    Pretty Polly
    Stack 0' Lee/Stagger Lee
    Frankie & Johnny
    Good Morning Little School Girl
    House of the Rising Sun
    Baby Please Don't Go

Howlin' Wolf first recorded this, the Stones nail it.....

Larry Davis was pretty much just a local player in Houston. But he did have his 15 minutes (more like 3) when he recorded "Texas Flood". Yep........

Boz Scaggs covering the Fenton Robinson classic..............(this is so damn good it almost hurts)

Big Joe Williams was the classic guitar across his back (twelve string) wandering bluesman from Mississippi. He hoboed/rode the blinds up into St. Louis. He hung around there for some time. In 1935 he and and a washboard band recorded what would become one of the most covered tunes of all, "Baby Please Don't Go". Obviously he never had a clue of the impact he made, he didn't live long enought.

Big Joe Williams and his classic (that isn't him in the picture)

Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers totally nails "Unchained Melody". One of the great sounds, but....

That was a cover of a 1955 tune with some debate over just who recorded the very first "Unchained Melody" sure I could probably find out but too lazy, so here is one of those who in 1955........................

The next time ya hear Elvis sing his tragic love song "Are You Lonesome Tonight"............

Nothing ruins a thread more than turning everyone on to things they probably weren't aware of and now they are. Dude, will your dumbass ever figure out I never saw any kids in any bars? Why act like ya can;t read? Do you realy think your buddies are going to go for anyone messing with kids, how damn stupid you? Here ya go half pint, Al Jolson covering "Are You Lonesome Tonight", the original was recorded back in tHe mid 20's. See ya learned something stupid.I guess I should keep it simple for ya, nay~~~~~~~~~~

This is up there with The Letter.
Of course I'm a bit biased but one of the very best.

His version of killing floor at Monterrey Pop is every bit as impressive, he basically reconstructed Howling Wolf's track and did in a way that only he coud

^His original begged to be drawn out as the Cover did. One immediately recognized that it was wholly inadequate at birth. Running it on a cassette, or, the Greatest Hits CD left one to check the run time (3:17) on the jewel case notes for confirmation that he'd miscalculated his work. To bow to radio parameters made for a vulgar presentation as it fades out. There's more but we were forbidden to hear, and one felt cheated even embarrassed driving about in the automobile.

The Cover makes it whole, and enshrines BMW into the ages.
