Trump wants minions, not collaborators in governance. For him, abject obedience and unquestioning loyalty outrank morality and competence. Those who displease him are quickly thrown to the wolves.

Trump told The New York Times that he would never have nominated Jeff Sessions to be his Attorney General if he had known in advance that he would recuse himself from the Russia investigation. Sessions chose to do so after it was revealed that he had undisclosed meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the campaign.

“Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Trump told the Times.

“I don’t think we’re under investigation. I’m not under investigation. For what? I didn’t do anything wrong,” he told the Times.
