The remake wasn't that bad (the original is my favorite horror movie), the second one was trash and nearly killed the franchise completely. Love McBride but am skeptical that this will be any good.

I love that the idea is to continue from H2 and have what Halloween 3 should have been.

Its probably for the best that the series continues instead of being rebooted again, most horror remakes don't even get sequels (Friday the 13th is having to reboot for a second time, even though the first remake was actually fairly good, A Nightmare of Elm Street doesn't seem like it's going anywhere.)

Danny McBride?? Has dude done anything relevant since Eastbound and Down (which jumped the shark after the first season)? Can't see a low-brow humorist being much of a horror writer.

Once Pleasence died (Halloween) died. His "Loomis" made it personal. He'd been with "Michael"---imparted those encounters with us and made sure to guarantee us there was a lot more he could not & would not impart. The immense ground between his "Loomis" and his incredulous/pure counterparts-&-peripherals was important, was crucial and lofted this simple idea. That he would invest himself in such a character considering his fine acting career is a testament. It can be done. There is no shame. Pleasence's legacy is assured.

Also, Loomis' constant pleading with the authorities and the public as to how much of a monster Myers was, while no one would listen. He was the constant reminder that Myers can't be stopped. He was evil in its purest form.

Yep, Loomis put a face to Michael with that "constant pleading." He groped and searched for just the right words to tell those [authorities] because what's he'd come to learn was unconscionable. The screenplay, the script told him no one would listen and by God he went onto that set and sold that, because without the sales job it's nothing... ---I spent 5 years trying to reach him. The last 10 trying to keep him locked away.--- He introduced Michael to us, made us listen as he made (authorities and the public) listen. They wouldn't, but, we did and that's how the materiel has endured. The enrichment that Pleasence, in this "little" monster movie accomplished is his gift to us. Sure, he got paid, but, at some point he sat down and made a measured decision to put as much work & the genius he was blessed with into this contract, into "Loomis" as he had all along the line of his life's work. It's a great lesson.

I agree, Loomis was vital part of the original series. I do really like Halloween H20, it felt like Michael Myers was sort of unchained. Without someone to constantly pursue him, he sort of became a drifter. Had they ended the series after H20, it would have been the perfect ending to the franchise but they got greedy with "Resurrection".

    H20
    Halloween (remake)
Halloween 2 (the slow pacing kept it from being a perfect sequel)

    Halloween 6
    Halloween 5

I remember taking the kids to see H20 at the time. It was a big deal then, but, I can't remember anything about that film. I'm going to hunt it down and take a fresh look.

I consider Halloween, Hallloween 2, & Hallloween H20 to be a trilogy with the others generally focusing on Michael Myers niece or someone else.
The final scene in H20 was great, should've been the end of the series.

Agree, there's way, way better horror movies out there, including many B-horror movies.

Only reason to watch any movie from this franchise was because of nudes and that was decades ago when internet porn wasn't as widespread.

Most of these independent slasher films has run its course.

All the classics tend to age poorly.
Halloween is the best one imo, and is the best of the horror series's that started in in 70's or 80's. The direction, music, and atmosphere make its better than alot of the other slasher films.

Friday the 13th is horribly dated and almost unwatchable.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre's 1st 40 minutes is rather boring and could (should have) been condensed to 15 minutes, the last half of the movie is actually pretty good but prefer the remake.
The orginal Hills Have Eyes is meh, the remake is much better

Much more true with Friday the 13th, Halloween doesn't have all that much nudity (IIRC 6 of the 10 movies contain none)

Yes. And the first had some quality (Wallace) in the cast, but, it did not take there. The remake did well to put Quinlan in the middle of it then surrounded her with unknown talent. Quinlan is magnificent as she is that character, the mundane mother of a bright brood of children & wife to a man that seems mismatched to her, but, she stayed, yep she stayed. She's weary now, but, indignities await her and it here where she again does what Pleasence does for [Halloween] legitimize the illegitimate---she transcends [Hills] death scenes. She used what she'd learned in "Breakdown" 10 years prior and brought it into this tumult.

The eldest daughter is another bridge in this film. The actress (Shaw) knows the place where the production has set her and she remains there instead of gobbling scenes.

I never go past the victory of the two youngsters. NO IN' WAY. I hit a switch. They ain't denying Dale of that victory.
