Went team by team on who has cap space available to give Simmons an offer sheet... still are eight teams looming with potentially dangerous amounts of cap space.
Above cap and tax (only tax MLE to offer at $5.2 million:
- CLE, POR, TOR, WAS (once Porter matched), and MIL
- GSW, LAC, and DET either have no remaining MLE or limited
Above cap but at or below tax:
- HOU (already used MLE)
- OKC (but full MLE would put them above apron, so effectively tax payer)
- CHA (already used MLE)
- MEM (already used MLE)
- NOP ... full MLE
- UTA could operate above cap and have full MLE; otherwise limited to $4.3mm room exception
At cap and likely limited to room exception
- MIA
- NYK (assuming Atlanta doesn't match)
- MIN
- BOS
- UTA also could get under cap by cutting Diaw, but could mean less money to spend than staying above
Cap space below full MLE - also have room exception:
- DEN
- IND
Higher cap space - also have room exception:
- DAL ($9.5mm) keeping Noel hold and shedding unguaranteed deals
- SAC ($12.0mm) renouncing Lawson
- CHI ($12.5mm) keeping Mirotic and Lauvergne holds but dumping Morrow
- PHX ($13.1mm) keeping Len hold but renouncing others ... could increase by signing Len to less money
- ORL ($14.5mm) assuming everyone is renounced / unguaranteed deals are cut
- PHI ($15.0mm) assuming everyone renounced and McConnell and Holmes are NOT cut
- ATL ($15.5mm) assuming everyone renounced and Hardaway is not matched
- LAL ($17.2mm) assuming everyone renounced
- BKN ($35.0mm) assuming everyone renounced / unguaranteed deals are cut / Porter matched
