poll commissioned by anti-gun-violence pac
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/0...ers-nra-237564With the NRA preparing to hold its annual convention this week in Atlanta, complete with a planned address from President Donald Trump, a new poll commissioned by an anti-gun-violence PAC found that less than 50 percent of gun owners polled believe the NRA represents their interests.
Sixty-seven percent of gun owners polled said they either strongly or somewhat agree that the NRA has shifted from an organization dedicated to gun safety to one “overtaken by lobbyists and the interests of gun manufacturers and lost its original purpose and mission.”
Seems like we need an alternative that actually has the interests of gun owners at heart, and not manufacturers.
The NRA is the latest example of how narrow financial interests act in ways that hurt society overall.

So?
Does that make the information invalid?
not inherently. but an agenda driven organization will always be motivated to get certain results. if the NRA gave out stats of gun usage/violence that painted gun ownership in a positive light, would you have reservations?
It's a PPP poll so there's a better than zero chance it's garbage.
Not that they could be bothered to link the actual poll.
It's better than just that.
"Twenty-six percent of respondents said they are members of the NRA, and 74 percent said they are not."
" a new poll commissioned by an anti-gun-violence PAC"
"The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling and commissioned by Americans for Responsible Solutions"
Sure.
Is it garbage?
It is entirely appropriate to be skeptical of advocate groups claims.
Is this claim valid?
Point already made by someone else.
what are your specific critiques of the methodology?
That was annoying.
Can't find the poll.
yeah, i'd say so. perhaps more accurately, their claims should be held to a greater than normal degree of scrutiny. doesn't mean their claims are false.
NRA doesnt GAF about members, only about BigDonor
Well put.
IN this case the poll roughly jibes with others that put a fairly solid majority of people in favor of more gun control than the NRA seems to want.
