Bleacher Report: NBA Mock Draft 2017: Post-Lottery Edition
    Jonathan Wasserman, May 16, 2017

Derrick White backed up his surprising year at Colorado with a strong NBA combine, standing out as one of the more polished offensive players during five-on-fives. White averaged 18.1 points and 4.4 assists during the season and showed off much of the same scoring and playmaking in Chicago.

Though not known for athleticism, he finished second in the three-quarter court sprint and among the top 10 in lane agility time and the shuttle run.

A former Division II star, White's story only helps improve his overall likability, an important factor during the predraft process.

While I would prefer the Spurs draft a big, this guy is projected to go around the end of the first on a lot of mock drafts. He's almost 23 but had a great year statistically and I'm sure the Spurs will be looking at him.

This is my prediction for the Spurs tbh. Nice gritty journey. His upside should be better than a normal 23yo because he is a late bloomer. He came out of high school at 6ft. Pretty solid all around.

Bleacher Report: NBA Mock Draft: Predicting Every Pick as 2017 Finals Begin

    Jonathan Wasserman

    June 2, 2017

    29. San Antonio Spurs: Derrick White (Colorado, SG, Senior)

    Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Derrick White's NBA combine performance helped validate his surprising season at Colorado, where he averaged 18.1 points and 4.4 assists per game after transferring from Division II's UCCS.

He showed off much of the same scoring and playmaking during five-on-fives in Chicago against other fringe-first- and second-round prospects.

White is suddenly being taken more seriously. He could be a sneaky option in the 20s for a team that admires his unique journey and buys into his skills and versatility.

CSNNE: NBA mock draft 4.0: Celtics pick has got to be Markelle Fultz
By A. Sherrod Blakely [presumedly 2 June 2017]

    29. SAN ANTONIO – Derrick White, G, Colorado:

Had a great senior season that took him from a forgotten man to a late-first, early second round draft pick.

    Not a fan.

Not enough motor or athleticism to excel in the league.

Again, the wings in this draft class outside of top 10 are not intriguing at 29...like at all.

This might be the weakest draft for SG that I have ever seen.

lol, I don't, not as much. Guy hyped McClinton as a better shooter than Curry.

sorry man, Bell was right there, Spurs had to throw it all away.

All while the Spurs are too cheap to do the right thing and stretch out Parker

They could have bought Bell also. Could have added a second.

    But no.

Spurs have been left in the feces-covered garbage like the rest of the league.

This was a very important draft and they just drafted a player w/ limited ceiling at a position they didn't need.

They dropped the ing ball tonight.

I don't even hate White, I had him on my list, but after Bell and Bolden.

What I hate is not being proactive and getting that same deal to add Bell.

Warriors don't sit on their hands and celebrate, they get to work.

Spurs didn't want to do that in 07 summer, and look like they're still not aggressive enough. The Warriors aren't going to relax, Spurs can't just hope that they'll decay.

Who knows, maybe they do need guard help. Mill, Simmons, Manu, and now Green all in play.

If you're losing LMA for little value, does it really make sense to lock in any of those dudes for long term deals? I don't think so.

Read that Bell had red flags from medical professionals. Reason he dropped where he did.

That's the big unknown from a fans perspective. I like White but, preferred Bell as well. That said, I don't know what the medical red flags were and if they were significant then we were right to pass.

During the draft on The Vertical coverage on Yahoo they also mentioned there were reports by some that Anunoby had degenerative joint disease of a knee.
