Rasheed Wallace, member of the 2003-04 Detroit Pistons championship squad, is here to add fuel to the burning question -- are the Golden State Warriors the best team in NBA history?

Speaking on the podcast Timeout with Taylor Rocks, the now-retired 16-year NBA veteran was asked whether or not he saw any comparisons between the 2003-04 Pistons and today's NBA.

    He had a bold response.

"Oh, we'd run through them. Not even close," Wallace said. "We play defense."

Wallace also elaborated on the comparison between Golden State's defense and the 2003-04 Pistons's defense, which Warriors interim head coach Mike Brown noted last month.

"I think the Warriors' defensive strategy is, I'ma put up more shots than you," Wallace said. "So that's their whole defensive thing. I don't call it good defense if the man came down and he shot a jump shot or shot a three and missed it, and the Warriors went back down to the other end and scored it."

Would the Pistons' defense been able to slow down Kevin Durant and the Warriors' historically great offense?

For reference, the 2003-04 Pistons -- which were led by Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace -- allowed just 84.3 points per game that year. The 2016-17 Warriors allowed 104.3 points per game during the regular season.

They say a great defense always stops a great offense, but the Warriors own the highest offensive efficiency rating (113.5) in a season since the current NBA playoff format began in 1984.

It's the hypothetical question that keeps on giving: Will the Warriors go down as the greatest team of all time?

Dubs would bust their ass. Pisstons had great low post defense, yes. Dubs would kill them from outside and in transition.

Dubs have so many "switchable" players that can defend multiple positions that it would be really hard for Pisstons to score. KD > Sheed. Steph > Chauncey. Klay = Rip. Ben > Zaza. Donkey = Prince. Dubs bench >>>> Pisstons bench.

Truth Bomb!!! Ive been sayin this the last two years. The GSW dont play defense like real basketball. Giving up over 100 on defense isnt defense. Its comical to me that Today NBA STers think defense is being played.

    Today NBA!!!

This. I think this is a terrible matchup for Detroit honestly. Detroit went through a dog EC and matched up with the isoball Lakers very well. Golden State is a completely different kind of beast. Ben Wallace would be damn near ineffective against a team like that. Curry would have his way with Billups and Durant with Prince. I don't see Detroit being able to exploit anything against GS's defense either.

I think it would be another sweep

They would get obliterated if they played with today's rules(remember, the 2004 Pistons were one of the reasons the NBA changed the rules, as they helped kill basketball and were permitted to use MMA tactics against Kobe in the Finals), that team wasn't very skilled, one of the worst championship teams of all-time..

I don't understand why the media keeps asking these old s if their teams would have beaten the Warriors, though..do you actually expect them to say, "nah, they would kill us"

Yo u sleepin' on Lindsey Hunter and Corliss Williamson son

If the series was played in Detroit in '05, Pistons would have put Curry/Durant on their azz. If played in 2017 rules howeva...

I mean , imagine even a 2011 Andrew Bynum clotheslining Curry like he did that Puerto Rican dude

Tough call for LakersNorth fans. Do they agree with Sheed in order to make Kobe look better for choking and quitting against those Pistons? Or do they side with their new favorite team?

Rip was an all star. His midrange > Klay. Klay's defense > Rip. Klay defense > Rip. Klay is better from 3. Now that I think further, Klay > Rip. In that case, Dubs sweep.

Warriors would defeat them in 4 blowouts.

The Pistons aren't going to hold the Warriors to under 70 or under 80 points like they did to these lesser teams back in the day. The Warriors are unlike any team they have every seen. The Warriors would overwhelm them with their talent because they have so much of it and the Warriors are an underrated defensive team as well (#1 in field goal percentage defense). That Pistons team was a terrible offensive team that would occasionally go on scoring droughts so if that happens against the Warriors (and i have no doubt that it will) the Warriors will bury them.

Dubs aren't the zero chemistry '04 lakers or lackluster '05 spurs, the Pistons aren't going to get them to slow down. Dubs will get 90-110 easy.

Dubs would Destroy '03 Spurs as well, tbh

'05 was arguably the best Spurs team ever, and one of the best teams of that decade. They had prime Duncan and prime Manu, near-prime Parker, 3&D specialist Bowen at his best, and great shooters off the bench.

Does anyone realize how bad the NBA was in 2004? Pistons Pacers ECF

The Nets with washed bad knee Jason Kidd took the Pistons to 7 games.

2004 Pacers won 61 games with this team.

    PG- Jamal Tinsley
SG- Reggie Miller 38 years old
    SF Ron Artest
    PF- Jermaine O'Neal
    C- Jeff Foster

Tinsley and Foster are horrible. This team wouldn't make playoffs today.

GS wouldn't have a shot against that Pistons's team. Fully-stacked Lakers with Malone and Payton got destroyed by that team.

Today's defense is weak and soft. Cavs are playing some D tonight and GS is feeling it. They have also allowed almost 50 pts in one quarter.

Yesterday you were saying sweep now you are saying Dubs in 5... lol

The amount of crap one has to read in this site. What the are you talking about? if there was one team who could be Detroit in 2005 was the Spurs and it was too close to call. Pistons should have had 2 rings in a row but the Spurs were at their peak. Best Spurs' team ever 05.

Spurs played huge D back in 2005 holding you to less than 90 pts a game. Dubs wouldn't have had a chance against that team - they would take away everything from you including the 3

One count of blasphemy. The NBA was great in 2004, the East was just terrible, makes today's East look like a gauntlet in comparison.

Meanwhile the West was off the charts great at that time. Garnett was a different species from another galaxy that year. LeBron was a raw rookie back then.

Nope. Hunter, Williamson, Campbell, Delfino, James, Okur, Ham... the #2 overall pick never saw the court because they were so deep that year. I can't begin to name half of the scrubs out of the dumpster from the Dublets' bench

Also, Steph > Chauncey is incorrect. Maybe in the regular season, but Chauncey was one of the most clutch playoff performers ever, and like Curry he was a threat to launch and hit a three at any moment. But he wasn't a perennial finals choker like Curry and he is regarded of one of the best defensive PGs ever to play. Curry is a ing sieve.

You're just asshurt about '04 and how Kobe the bed trying to win his 1st 4th. That's all.
