As long as his contract allows enough flexibility to sign Lebron next year, I'm cool.

I don't know why anyone is getting worked up over something that was obvious the moment he opted out. It was always going to result in either a 2 or 3 year contract and if it was the latter, it was always going to be a partially guaranteed final season. It's a win-win: He's made whole and they lessen the cap hit, which increases their flexibility going forward.

Well, if the team does trade LMA for Irving, then a Big Three with Cousins would make the most sense. Gasol as the backup C for a few years would be interesting.

They needed the money this year. Gasol can still be an effective player. He had his moments last year and if he can keep hitting 3s, all the more. I'm fine with him, he was unselfish and adjusted fine to coming off the bench when asked. His offensive game is still good and even if he's slow on defense, at least he's long. Big men age better than guards.
They didn't need the money if they were just going to stand pat IMO. I understand when Gasol opted out he didn't know if some FA were a possibility, but after Spurs decided to spend on Patty and stand pat.... this was

Just glad we have the best GM who gets Pau to opt out so he can chase Chris Paul and fails miserably, offers Patty Mills a re ed contract 1 minute into Free Agency, all the while now having to keep Pau's old ass 2 years longer. So much winning.

I'm going to guess 11 per year with 3 guaranteed in the final year.

^You have a really weird taste in players for someone who's been a Spurs fan as long as you have.

Which made Pau opting out useless and ing stupid. Could have signed ty mills for way less and only be on the books for 1 year more of Gasol.
You dont know that. But keep speculating

That's my take, too, but maybe I am missing something. PATFO's doing this opt-out deal with Pau without having some pretty big FA on a firm verbal commitment just looks like stumblin', fumblin', bumblin' by PATFO.

Not sure why all the fuss..

This was a done deal the day he opted out. The Spurs need him to stretch his contract so they can create cap room, specially for 2018. When he opted out it was because they needed cap space for make a big splash this postseason but it didn't happen so now they structure the money anyway.

Also, he's the only starting center the Spurs have on the books now.

My took a damn paycut and opted out of his 15M deal, and the front office used it on Pity ing Mills. Incredible how stupid this front office is.

Best front office in the business. Didn't you read how RC kept picking steals of the draft in Kyle Anderson, Dejounte Murray and Derrick White?
