The biggest danger would be if Jose overtakes Irma and the two combine into one big hurricane. It would likely be around a Category 8. Not 10 as both storms would lose some efficiency.

My advanced modeling says probably.

The preferable outcome would be Harvey stalling and Irma catching up and inverting so that the two would spin counter to each other and cause both to disappear.

They won't "combine". This is not an action movie. Most likely they Fujiwhara, which will temporarily force Jose to the NW towards Bermuda. But then, after Irma gets picked up by the trough on Sept 10th-11th near landfall, Jose will loop back west towards a likely Florida/US East Coast hit, probably as a major hurricane.

The next African wave coming off is supposed to go north-northwest ish and become Tropical Storm Lee in a few days... likely a fish storm though, and short lived. We'll have to wait for the next formidable wave/cyclone to come off Africa/ITCZ in about a week or so, that one may be Hurricane Maria.
