One of the very best parts of home schooling was reading so many of the classics - taught my kids beginning phonics using Dr. Seuss's ABC. I would not want this woman in charge of the choice of books in any school my kids attended - she'd probably ban Harry Potter series as not racially representative.

Meh. The bigger complaint is spending time and donating books to a richers school instead of one that needs them.
I just don’t understand this level of partisanship. Just take the ing books and say Thank You. It’s a nice gesture, and you’re an asshole if you want to make a political statement over some Dr Seuss books.
That school's lib had 9000+ books and professional librarian with a graduate degree in librariness.
How did supposedly high-IQ Melania think such a school could use her gift books?
I think I'd rather have some untrained person with a love of good (and less) books than this professional librarian with graduate degree in Library Science with 9000+.
Yep.
And then regift them to the needy libraries.
Librarian in question
Theodor Seuss Geisel -- or Dr. Seuss -- used his incredible talent to instill in his most impressionable readers universal values we all hold dear. Through a prolific collection of stories, he made children see that reading is fun, and in the process, he emphasized respect for all; pushed us to accept ourselves for who we are; challenged preconceived notions and encouraged trying new things; and by example, taught us that we are limited by nothing but the range of our aspirations and the vibrancy of our imaginations. And for older lovers of literature, he reminded us not to take ourselves too seriously, creating wacky and wild characters and envisioning creative and colorful places. - President Barack Obama
Who cares? It’s a gift and a harmless, kind gesture. It’s one of the few unoffensive things done by this presidency. Not every ing thing has to be a fight.
Because Republican.
rich soft-porn trophy wife giving a few books to a well-off school. WTF is the message here? and there's ALWAYS a calculated message.
No there's not. It was probably another run-of-the-mill FLOTUS photo op.
God damn, you're stupid.
det home schoolin'
Yep, Melania does not like green eggs and ham and she's trying to indoctrinate our youth to not like them either.
Who needs Dr Seuss books? Who indeed.
She does not like them on a boat.
As opposed to this librarian's table of Sit-In, Strike! and Where Do You Stand? No message at all.
Who indeed? The Giant Shneeds need those books indeed!
No message at all, said the stick to the ball.
, that was Shel Silversteinish, not Suessy.
Word has it these particular books were printed on paper made from The Giving Tree.
If you're ever on long drives with the family, I highly recommend (by age):
1. The Ramona series narrated by Stockard Channing
2. Roald Dahl audio books - Matilda (my favorite), Fantastic Mr. Fox, Enormous Crocodile, Magic Finger - his books just seem to connect with boys. I didn't particularly care for his most famous - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
2. Harry Potter series - by the last book, the narrator sounds like the movie characters.
Donald Duck books best books
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
Read that about 500 times. Threw up on it 3 or 4 times and no one could take it away from me.
Loved those fish drawings.
Awesome books.
