WTF did y'all do? Don't get me wrong, I experienced life before the internet practically became a utility, but it just seems weird living in a world where the internet wasn't a major tool you used every single day.

AIM shutting down in December is messing with me. I haven’t used it on over a decade, but getting on AIM & MSN Messenger was my life as a yound lad from like 2000-2004.

I can barely remember life before the internet and cell phones tbh. I do remember my parents getting the big ass Mapsco every year. Crazy how ancient that has become in less than 20 years.

I remember watching pork and wrestling PPVs on the fuzzy, staticky channels.

I remember how much faster Roadrunner cable internet was when it first came out, blazing fast.

I remember when a 500 mhz machine was a fire breather.

I remember when Called ID was high tech.

My first PC was a 20mhz 386SX from Austin computers. Didn't even have a math coprocessor. Had 2 meg of memory in 8 sticks and a 40meg HDD. I couldn't load Windows so i ran Digital Research DOS (DR DOS) that took 8 floppy disks to load. There was only news groups and some BBS activity similar to these forums. You'd almost need to know the string to type in to get the modem to work before V.90 took over. 300 baud. There was no world wide web, no GUI that I was aware of. AOL was the going thing, but too expensive. Netscape was up and coming, and soon the concept of "if you have a business you need a .com address" was being laughed at by people who fell behind the curve. I registered a few names and sold them later (I would make a fortune with them today) to folks who started businesses and needed those names.

To play a game you had to get into the config.sys file and set your memory up to allow sound to work. Oddly the same soundblaster then seems to be around now.

But most of the time I was on a lake fishing in a tournament somewhere or in a treestand with a bow.

Kids played outside. People had to look up in books at these places called libraries before there was Wikipedia. Boys had to jerk off to their dad's Playboy, or (gasp) use their imagination. And before cell phones... teenagers had some measure of autonomy without their parents GPSing their location and calling them every ten minutes. People actually had to meet in person and speak without the use of text or social media to get to know one another.

That mall was the back in the day. If you wanted to live the ghetto aspect for a few hrs you'd go there. Can't believe its not there anymore...so much has changed especially in that little area of Pharr.

People were starting to get the Nokia b&w cell phones with snake when I was in high school....MSN messenger was big....the upgrade from 9.6K to 56K to 1.5 Mbps cable modem was revolutionary....Windows 3.11 for workgroups.

Went to the mall for $2 Movie Tuesdays. Played at the park every weekend with the neighborhood kids. Was this a dream tbh?

This ing guy gets it. 4 player split screen. The TV we played on was already small as ....and you only got 1/4 of the screen. It didn't matter. We would play for hours and hours and hours.

    Oddjob FTW.
