I can't say I ever really understood that expression, but that's what I would've said regardless.

can't wait to see how he plays tonight... it'll be bitter sweet to see kawhi on the floor after so long.
I remember the last few times he came back from injuries.
He wasn't exactly tearing up the place, but he's a better player now than he was.
