He’s gotten like Chris Rock and Louis CK’s last couple of specials, where he’s more interested in making statements than telling jokes. It feels forced.
This thing sucked.
I've been listening to Howard Stern (the best of) for the last week and a half. Chappelle's Netflix 2017 specials came up in almost every interview with a comedian. And all of them raved about it. One saying it was one of the best routines he'd ever heard.
So, although I don't watch many standups on TV anymore, I was pretty excited to check out this one. Watched it last night and I thought it was lame. He damn near sounds like a grumpy old man at times.
I would have rather watched any single Chappelle show than this 1 hour plus of bull .

I don't even know what statements he was making. He tries to come off as edgy at times but all the while, he's straddling the fence.
Maybe the other one is funnier. The Texas one.
But spending an hour talking and only getting out a handful of punchlines is not what I'd ever want to pay to see.
They kept showing clips of the audience seeming like they thought it was the funniest they've seen.
hasan minhaj's special was better than anything chapelle put out in 2017
he probably needs to take more time between them, but I haven't seen any of the last 4 he put out.
Ari Shaffir's Double Negative was the best one I saw in 2017. I still need to watch Felipe Esparza's on HBO.
The one where he talked about the Care Bears was pretty funny. I fell asleep on the newer one.
yeah that was his best of the recent bunch. also liked "he rapes, but he saves"
The recent one he did in Baltimore was pretty good. The one in the small room I. LA was ig atrocious. would have been pretty upset if I paid for that awkward
Yeah...I just noticed last night that there are two more that I wasn't aware of, "Equanimity" & "the Bird". Plus the Texas named one. I guess I might check them out.
Texas one is ok. Forgot which one is which of the new ones. The one in Baltimore is pretty good, but the one in LA is just kind of him rambling about different things.
big chappelle fan back in the day like everyone should be... i saw half of one his earlier netflix stand ups and it just wasn't funny.
agreed and recommend.
ari has a podcast but that is usually over three hours long. i don't really listen to it, if they edited it a lot more maybe i would.
chris tucker's stand up on netflix is awesome.
I cherry pick Ari's podcast, but the intro and outros are usually worth it. I saw Ari run that material in January 2016 in Denver at Comedy Works in the basement which is an amazing venue, it's in the basement, and then saw it taped at Cap City later in the year. It was great both times, but amazing when he had it ironed out later in the year. The stage he bought for Cap City in Austin is still there.
I've seen three of the four new ones so far and thought they were all very good imo
just watched the one where he talks about transgenders and stuff, that one was pretty good
This one was really good.
I thought his two specials on Netflix were pretty good. Comedians need to keep pushing back on PC/SJW bull .
Meh, that dude, tbh
did you see his special?
Is it better than what he did at WH correspondence dinner? Because that sucked
Watch it. It's not your usual comedy stand up routine. It was smartly made.
Dont be afraid, this doesn't get political, mostly personal.
I’ll watch it tonight. Thanks
I got through 15 minutes of his special and didn’t laugh once. It’s what I thought it would be.
Saw the most recent one...sucked. We'll always have Killing them Softly and two seasons of Chapelle Show tho.
